The Annual Christmas
meeting of Hensall Women's
Institute was held Wednesday
evening December 11th with
PreSident Mrs. Clarence Reid
presiding.

observed for the late Mrs.
Willert, a member of the branch,
A special collection of $1,3.75
was taken to be donated to the
Children's Aid Society at
Goderich. It was decided to
purchase a Christmas gift for a
Sunshine Pal at Huronview, and
to help the Retarded Children's
Association accompanying the
children to school in the spring.
Several greeting cards were read
from several branches.
Mrs. Elizabeth Riley gave an
excellent report of the Area
Convention at Ingersoll. Mrs.
Jarnes McAllister gave Christmas
readings, Mrs. Bill Noakes sang
two, solos accompanied by Miss
Greta Lammie. Mrs. Eric Luther
gave a demonstration on
Christmas decorations and how
to decorate a waste paper
basket.

Christmas party
The annual Christmas party
for children of Hensall and
community was, held last
Saturday afternoon under ideal
weather conditions and the
largest crowd to attend the party
was recorded.
Santa arrived in the Hensall
fire truck and was greeted by the
children. Four hundred and
sixty children were each treated
to a bag of potato chips, a
chocolate bar and a bottle of
chocolate milk, the latter
compliments of Hurondale
Dairy.
The children and parents
were entertained with films,
with Bill Fuss in charge of the
projector. The hall was packed
to capacity with about 500 in
the audience.

The Friendship and Visitation
Committee of Hensall United
Church delivered 31 lovely
Christmas boxes on Tuesday
afternoon to shut-ins of the
church, Village, Queensway
Nursing Home, Hensall;
Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich;
Huronview, near Clinton; South
Huron Hospital, Exeter.
In charge of the project were
Mrs. R. J. Drysdale, convenor.
Mrs. Lorne Hay, Mrs. Albert
Shirray, Mrs. Stanley Mitchell,
Mrs. W. J. Clement, Mrs. Jack
Simmons, Mrs. Wilmer Ferguson.

hears rights talk
The December meting of
Chiselhurst United Church
Women opened with the theme
song. The Sunday School rooms
were suitably decorated in
Christmas Toff. Mrs. Thomas
Brintnell opened with a
Christmas message for 1968.
Mrs. Karl Kinsmen presented
the worship service, assisted by
Mrs. Percy Harris. The
missionary prayer was offered
by Mrs. Russell Brock. Reverend
Harold Currie presented "The
Message of Christmas" with the,
scripture taken from the old and
new testaments.
Mrs. Alf Ross chose "Star of
the East" for an instrumental.
Twelve Christmas boxes were
packed for the sick and shut-ins.
Mrs. Richard Taylor gave a talk
on "Human Rights."
Flowers in the United Church
Sanctuary Sunday morning were
in memory of Mrs. William
Dinnin, placed by the fainily.
Reverend Harold F. Currie,
Minister, expressed his thanks
during ,the service to the ladies
who decorated the church so
beautifully and the Guides and
Brownies for their gift of two
poinsettias.
Special Christmas services will
be held, next Sunday morning
December 22 at 11 a.m. The
Sunday School session will be
Withdrawn so all the people
could attend in families.
Holy Communion will be
held Christmas eve.

Cromarty Presbyterian churches,
honoured their minister for the
past seven year's, Reverend J. C.
Boyne and Mrs. Boyne, at a joint
presentation held at Caven
Presbyterian Church, Exeter,
Sunday evening, with the church
filled for the occasion,
presenting them with a purse of
money.
Reverend Boyne and Mrs.
Boyne and family leave for 'a
new charge in Brantford the end
of this month.
A Christmas concert was a
feature of the evening. Reverend
Boyne will preach his farewell
sermon This Sunday morning
December 22.

Mrs.. Thomas Kyle Sr.
received -Word. of tho death of
her brother Dave :Kipfer of
Albin, Iowa. He was 74 and was
born in flay Township- A
veteran 'of the First World, War
where he was wounded and
gassed, Surviving ,ore one son,
Donald of Alnia, Iowa. His. wife,
one SOP and. one daughter
predeceased, him. Also surviving
are two sisters Nancy and Ula,
two brothers, Ezra Kipfer,
Hensall, Simon, in. the States.

The December meeting of the
United Church Women was held
in the church on Thursday
evening with Group One in
charge of devotions, led by Mrs.
Robert Stirling.
The scripture lesson was read
by Mrs. Joe Postill and the
prayer by Mrs. Stirling.
A duet, "Silent Night, Holy
.Night" was sung by Miss
Deborah Stephenson and Miss
Mary Lou Johnston. A reading
entitled "Silent Night" by Mrs.
H. Broeze. A Candlelight Service
was conducted by Mrs. Louis
Taylor, Mrs. Hal Flaro, Mrs.
William Taylor and Mrs. William
McAsh. The offering was
received by Mrs. Florence Elliott
and dedicated by Mrs. Ida
McClinchey.
A reading entitled "The old
fashioned rural Christmas
Concert" was given by Mrs.
Robert Taylor.
The roll call was answered by
donations to the Children's Aid
Christmas Fund. The allocation
was met and forwarded. There
were 13 calls made to the homes
and 48 calls to the hospital
during the past month. Lunch
'was served at the ,

observed in the United Church
on Sunday last with the pastor
Reverend M. Morrison in charge
assisted by several girls of the
choir.
The annual Christmas service
will be held Sunday, December
22 in the United Church ' at
10:15 a.m. and the 'young

The Berean Unit of the
U.C,W. met in the church parlor
on Tuesday. Nrs• Howalt
president opened the meeting
with a reading followed by
prayer and hymn 59 "Hark the
Herald Angels Sing". Mrs. Lorne

Hunking read St, Luke's story of
the nativity. Mrs, Jim McCall
gave an interesting •reading.
The president's chair will be
filled by Mrs. Bert Shobbrook
with Mrs. Morgan Jones as
secretary for 1969 and 70. Mrs.
Joe Shathlick commenced the
programme period with a
number of carols being sung. She
then called on Mr. Heckendorn
who gave a stirring Christmas
message and spoke on "What
does a non-Christian think of
Christmas?"
Mr. Heckendorn closed with
the Benediction. A social cup of
tea and dainty lunch was served
by the hostesses.

Church was held Monday
evening December 9 at 8 ,p.m.
with a good attendance.
Opening remarks were given
by the Sunday School
Superintendant Hank Binnendyk
who was chairman for the
evening, and the opening
number on the prgramme was, a
pantomime by the nursery class
"My Teddy Bear and I."
A recitation by Heather
McLean and Dennis McBride of
the nursery class. A Tree Recital
by the Kindergarten class.
A number by the Primary
class entitled "Who can he be?"
Pageant by Junior and
Intermediate classes.
A Tableau and carol singing
by the choir. Santa then
appeared and distributed treats
and gifts to all the children.
The Christmas meeting of
Kippen UCW was held in the
church schoolroom, on Tuesday
evening with Mrs. Robert Elgie
presiding. Mrs. Bert Faber gave
'the" devtiticinal.' on' "Christi-rids"
and offered a prayer, "A
Housewife's Christmas Prayer".
Mrs. Robert Elgie reported
that she and Mrs. Edison
McLean visited during the
month of November. Mrs.
Norman Dickert gave the
Sunshine report. The treasurer's
report was given by Mrs. Ken
McLellan.
"Christmas in my Homeland"
was presented by Mrs. A.
Binnendyke, Holland; Mrs. Jack
Bell, Denmark; Mrs. Tom Reid,
France.
Mrs. Keith Lovell favoured
with a solo, "The Holy City"
