The neighbours of Mr. and
Mrs, Eldon Johnston held a
surprise party for them in their
home Friday night, Co celebrate
the occasion of ' their 40th
wedding anniversary.
The evening was spent
playing euchre. Then Eldie and
Vera were presented with gifts.,
ruby studded cuff links and tie
pin, earrings and pin in ruby .
setting, and a piece of ruby
crystal suitable for use 'as - a
coffee table centrepiece.
A delicious lunch brought an
enjoyable evening to a close.

article on "Gifts, and the
different ways of giving". Mrs.
John Scotchmer mad a poem
from her mother's scrapbook.

moved to Bayfield frOm Detroit.
Mrs. Greer closed the Meeting
with prayer, and a social hour
followed.

The Christmas meeting of
Hensall United Church Women,
Unit 4, was held in the church
parlors Thursday afternoon
December 5, with Mrs. James
McAllister presiding who gave
the invocation and welcomed all
in from the storm. The
Christmas theme rang
throughout the meeting.
Mrs. McAllister gave a
devotional on "A New Day
.Morning" and offered prayer.
Mrs..,Eric Luther favoured with a
Ifile'libly Night", accompanied
by' tier son, Don, at the piano,
for a pleasing prelude to the
programme.
The study book was taken by
Mrs. Harry Caldwell on "Rejoice
at Christmas too", by F. Cohen.
Mrs. T. Sherritt reported on
finances. Anyone wishing to
contribute farther to the
treasurer are asked to do so
befOre December 15. The
Christthas stocking plans were
finalized and they are to be
brought in and completed by
December 1 at the general
meeting.
Mrs. N. E. Cook read the slate
of officers for 1969 which is as
follows: leader, Mrs. James
McAllister (asst) Mrs. Harry
Caldwell; secretary, Mrs. R. M.
Peck (asst) Mrs. Joe Flynn;
treasurer, Mrs. T. J. Sherritt
(asst) Mrs. George Armstrong;,
pianist, Mrs. Laird Mickle (asst)
Mrs. Sherritt, and social
functions, Mrs. E. Rowe.
Mrs. W. H. Weeks conducted
a contest and all enjoyed a
Yuletide lunch during the social
hour.
A euchre was held Th,irsday
evening in the I.O.O.F. Lodge
Hall, Hensall and the winners
were: ladies, `Mrs. Clarence
Volland; men, Roy McDonald,
and lone hands, Ted Taylor.
With increasing age, there is a
gradual slowing in physical
performance. But this is no
reason to cut out all activity. On
the contrary, inactivity only
speeds up this slowing of
physical performance, says the
federal health department
publication, "Get fit — Keep'
fit."
Exercises and sports which
tax wind and muscle can be
continued well into advancing
years. As for milder forms of
Percy Campbell won the prize
of a chicken in a draw.
The euchre was sponsored by
the C.P. & T. Committee.
Mrs. Sim Roobol received an
acknowledgement this week
from Mrs. Ethel Kennedy,
widow of the late Senator
Robert F. Kennedy. Mrs.
Roobol sent an expression of
sympathy to Mrs. Kennedy at
the time-of the sudden death of
her husband. A photo of Senator
Kennedy was enclosed in the'
letter.
