the Fire Hall and is the reason
Clinton Council ordered the
facility locked until it can be

; • "It's not it to be open,"
remarked C., incillor Frank
Cook. Deputy Reeve Gordon
Lawson elaborated: "There's not
much breakage, it's just messed
up with dirty writing...it's not fit
for a respectable person to walk
in there."
; • Deputy Reeve Lawson said
••' there is no paint available that
• can't be written on, but there is
some which is easily washed. II,
was suggested that the
washroom be locked earlier . in
the evening, moved to another
site or closed completely. No
decision was reached and the
Matter was sent to committee.
Mayor : Donald Symons
lamented the defacing of the
walls as -another abuse of services
provided 'by the town. 'Though
,the vandalism seems minor. In'
noted, the cost to ri \ it is
substantial.

Put apples
on ice now
For quick apple pies all
winter long, put some of this
season's Ontario apple harvest
into your freezer, suggests the
Food Council, Ontario
Department of Agriculture and
Food.
Select only full-flavoured,
crisp, firm apples for freezing.
Slice them directly into a weak
brine solution of about 1
teaspoon salt to 1 quart water,
and leave in the brine for no
more than 15 to 20 minutes.
Drain and drop the slices into
boiling water for just two
minutes. Time carefully, as
overcooking makes the slices
soft, while undercooking allows
the frozen product to lose
colour, flavour, and quality.
A f ter cooking, pack the
apples separately in amounts
required for one or two pies, and
add all or part of the sugar, as
desired. Wrap, label, and freeze
immediately.
SMOKERS' RULES
To prevent forest fires, never
'smoke while walking through
the woods; always stop and sit
down. Douse matches and butts
in water or rub them out
between your fingers.
