U.C.W. meets
The October 9 meeting of the
Stanley Unit U.C.W. was held at
the home of Mrs. Clark.
Co-hoStesses were Mrs. Stuart
and Mrs. Lemmon.
Mr. D. Triebner opened the
meeting with readings,
"Thanksgiving" and "Just for
Today." The Scripture was
taken by Mrs. C. 'Henderson and
a hymn was sung. Prayer was
followed by offering and

He returned." Mrs. D. Triebner
read a poem, "Today's
Thought." Roll call indicated 22
members and one visitor present.
Treasurer's report was given.
Stanley Unit is to have
devotion and topic for
November General meeting.
The November mee1.ing will
be at the home of Mrs. N. Baird.
The meeting closed with
prayer. Lunch was served by the
hostess.
Crop Report
Wet weather has temporarily
held up the white bean harvest.
Warm, humid days may have an
adverse effect on pulled beans.
Yields of 10 to just over 30
bushels/acre have been reported
with many fields at 18 t . 22
bushels/acre. Quality, so far, has
been good,
Corn is maturing very well.
Silo filling is the order of the
day on many farms.
Wheat appears to be
germinating uniformly in most
areas.

Canadian industries.
Vice president Mrs. Elizabeth
Riley, Who, Presided, welcomed
the members and guests.
Members responded to the roll
call by naming a Canadian
manufactured.article used in the
home.
Fifteen, dollars was donated.
the Canadian National Institute
for the Blind. Mrs. Harry Morton
gave highlights of the A.C.W.W.
held at Lansing, Mich, and also
showed colored slides.
Mrs. James McAllister gave
the report of the bazaar held at
Huronview on Wednesday and
mer `loped that suitable
Christmas gifts would be
appreciated by thr... patients'whe
would like to send them to their
relatives for Christmas.
Mrs. Wilbert Pilling gave the
report of the Rally held at
Cranbrook.
Mrs. Dilling was in the chair
for the program which included
a sing-song directed by Miss
Greta Lammie. The motto,
prepared by Mrs. Harry
Caldwell, "farming is like a
wheelbarrow, it , stands still
unless you push it," was
followed with an appropriate
reading pertaining to the farmer.
Guest soloist, Mrs. Luther,
rendered two solos, "The
Wonder of it Alt" and. 'Wow
Great Thou Art", aewnwanied
at the piano by Mrs,. T. J.

The annual meeting of .he
local association .of Brownies
and Guides took place at the
United Church on Tuesday,
October 8. President of the
association, Mrs. E. Rowe,
chaired the meeting.
Mrs. Luther, Mrs. Flynn
and Mrs. Cooper, three new
Guiders, were wlecomed, The
date for the Nandy Sale" was
set Ifor Saturday; ° October 26..
followed on the
cookie sale which will take place
in April.
Mrs. Flynn mentioned
registration fees were due. Mrs.
T. Lavender, gave an outline on
the improvements that had been
accomplished at the camp site.
Unit 2 of the U.C.W. met for
their regular meeting on
Monday, October 14. Mrs. Harry
Hoy was in charge, opening with
a poem and Thanksgiving hymn.
Mrs. Hoy reviewed a chapter
from "Japanese Profiles,
Teachers in Depth" and
followed it with excerpts from
the United Church Observer on
Dr. McClure, the new
Moderator.
Arrangements were made for
the Soutl. Regional meeting of
U.C.W. of Huron. Perth
Presbytery to be held in Hensall
United Church, Wednesday,
October 23' commencing at 9:15
a.m. with lunch at 12 o'clock
followed by an afternoon
session.
Mrs. P. L. McNaughton based
her worship on the Parable of
the Talents. Mrs. Hoy conducted
a Bible quiz.
Lunch was served by Mrs.
Robert Brodie and her
committee.
