Twenty-eight boys and eight
adults travelled to Dearborn,
Michigan last eeke weekend as guests
of the St. Sebastian Dad's Club.
The Fish and Game Hockey
and Baseball Bantams made the
trip, with the highlight 'of the
weekend coming Saturday
afternoon when the boys
Watched the 'Tiger-Washington
game at Tiger Staduim.
The boys had the
opportunity of seeing the
league-winning "Go—Go" Tigers
and their great pitching star
Denny McLain in action.
All Tiger ball fans -- don't
forget to purchase your world
series lucky draw tickets from
members of the local Kinsmen
Club, or at the Claud 9 Room in
the Clinton Hotel. Proceeds
from the draw will be used by
the club to sponsor Pee Wee
Hockey and Baseball.
Fall is officially here. The
local high school gridiron was
the place of action last Thursday
afternoon.
The Juniors lost 6-0 to
Exeter, while the Seniors were
downed 2-0 in a defensive battle
with Stratford.
Times have certainly changed
in the past few years. Very few
of the students or local residents
took the time to watch the
senior game, a game which I felt
was an interesting contest.
Hockey will soon begin in our
At a special meeting of the
Clinton Public Utilities
Commission September 24th,
the operations of the
waterworks department for the
first eight months of 1968 were
reviewed and water rates
discussed.
The present water rates are
providing insufficient revenues
and the waterworks department
has been operating at a deficit
for the past two years.
When the P.U.C. established
the present rates about 45 years
ago, tliey were based on 1923
estimates and plans.
Since then both plans and
costs have been considerably
expanded so . that the
waterworks department, by the
end of this year, will have
suffered a considerable deficit.
Thus recognizing the' need,
not only to maintain the present
60-year-old system, but also to
expand and update this system,
the P.U.C. is undertaking an
immediate rate study in order to
provide sufficient operating
funds.
The. P.U.C. hopes to have the
new rates take effect January 1.
SIFTOS NEED PLAYER

I am writing to extend an
invitation through the ,Sports
sectiQn (141 your Paper to all
Clinton and district boys who
Might be interested in trying Out
for the Goderich Siftos Hockey
Club, of the OHA Junior 'B'
Central Division.
We will be beginning practices
at the GoderiCh Arena, this
coming Saturday, October 5
with workouts at 10 a.m. and, 3
p.m. and on Sunday, October 6
at 11 a.m: and 4 p.m, The boys
are asked to bring their own
equipment for the tryouts, and
should take note of the new age
limit this year — they must have
been born after December 31,
1948 to be eligible to play.
The Siftos will be playing in a
seven team league this year with
the Owen Sound Greys,
Stratford Warriors, St. Marys
Lincolns, Kitchener Greenshirts,
Waterloo. Siskins and Strathroy
Rockets.
Last year, we had two
Clinton area boys with us, Alan
Howes and Cam Colquboun.
Alan has gone on to obtain a
hockey scholarship, arranged by
our coach John Mason and is
attending St. Lawrence
University in New York State
this year, Cam will be back with
us, after having attended the
Niagara Falls Junior 'A' training
camp in September.
We are hopeful that there will
also be several other boys turn
out from Clinton, since we are
stressing local talent on this
year's team.
Over half of last year's team
will be gone because of overage,
university attendance, etc. so
there are many spots • open on
the, team for those trying out.
We will also be looking
forward to seeing the many
Clinton area fans who supported
us last year at our home games.
The first game of the schedule is
here in Goderich on October 18,
and we will be playing at home
almost every Friday throughout
