deHaviland Otters and the star
of the :show the fabled Red
Knight of the Canadian forces,
The Red Knight, Captain
Dave Curran .of Vanadian FOrees
Base .Portage La Prairie, thrilled
the crowd, with a series of
aerobatics including the vertical
eight, the Cuban eight, four
point rolls slow rolls and loops
and with a dozling display of
airmanship bringing 'his blood
red Tutor jet thUndering across
the airport at tree top height.
High speed climbs and turns
imposed much .as seven times
the force of gravity on the 32
year old pilot who hails from
Kingston.
Captain. Curran the Red
Knight for this year, gave his.
final performance &wing the
show having toured throughout
Canada this year. He is a veteran
with 10 years service in the
forces both in Canada and
overseas and is an instructor on
T33 and Tudor aircraft at his
home base. Captain Joe Holden,
from the same base, was the
commentator during the show.
He is a native of Kitchener.
The CT-114 Tutor is the first
aircraft in the Canadian Armed
Forces to have seats side by side,
an arrangement that allows the
instructor excellent visibility at
all times. The Tutor has enough
power and is fast enough — top
speed about 490 knots — to
introduce pilots to the effects of
additional gravities and to give
them a thorough introduction to .
jet aircraft from the outset of
their training.
The jet engine's 2,700 pounds
of static thrust lifting an aircraft
of only 7,000 pounds, provides
an optimum power to weight
ratio. A high tailplane and short
thick wings provide high
stability and brings the aircrafts
stall speed down to a very low
80 knots.
The safety, record of the
aircraft is better than any yet
and the.Tutor is regarded as the
best flight instruction aircraft
ever to have been used by the air
force.
Roads leading from the
airport were jammed- with cars
following the show and members
of the Goderich Lions Club did
noble duty handling the traffic
both for parking and in getting
the cars out again after the show
was over. Members of the
Ontario Provincial Police were
on duty at all county highways
and no accidents are reported.
despite the large number of
vehicles on the road.
As an aftermath to the show,
the main beach in Goderich was
packed to capacity late Sunday
afternoon as .visitors and
residents tried to cool. off after a
perfect day. Cars jammed the
parking lOt at the beach and
refreshment stands did a land
office business.

variety of ways. Use breads or
cereals to "stretch" casseroles,
