The Walkerton team had two boys who were close to six feet tall, both Of whom bad excellent hitting Power, The Pee Wees should be proud of the suppoit shown them by the many fans who travelled the three nights to Walkerton and Wingham. Close tq 40 people from Clinton travelled to Walkerton Wednesday night, and a good cheering section from town was on, hand for the game on Friday. Walkerton had a total of two fans, at the Friday game. The small crowd who watched the Juvenile game Saturday afternoon went home talking about pitching which is rare in this part of the country, Manager Howard Tait has been talking for weeks about his fast pitcher from CFB Clinton and Jim Davidge proved Howard's words with an amazing show of speed in striking out 21 batters. Two more periods were held each.afternoon. The were followed by two hours of free time when a leader could have extra instruction or practice certain. Skills himself, The most outstanding part of the camp was meeting other boys from various points of. the province, some of them having great athletic ability. Besides improving the students, ability in sports, the councillors also tried to bring out each student's leadership eualitieS. Twelve persons were Pater Cameron, Paul Crittenden and Paul Bartliff received,Bronze Cross awards. These boys were instructed by Bob Cooper, ,Saturday morning, Winnie V alk e n burg, Grace Strong, Cathy Grigg and Andrew Amsing were successful in passing tests for Bronze Medallion, awards. Their instructor was Pa Ball. Bronze Bar tests were passed by Bob Cooper, Phyllis P'remlin, Judy Finlay Paul Bartliff and Paul. Crittenden Pat Bail instructed this group,. Jack Rankin, CFB Clinton, examined the bronze bar and bronze medallion classes Saturday morning, Bob Cooper passed his "award of merit" swimming test in Goderich a week ago. MARK OE EXCELLENCE Mere 482.930 Clinton ,Juveniles Wen their first game in O.B.A.playoff competition Saturday when they defeated Wheatley by A 6 to 0 margin Clinton ace right bander ,lirn Davidge, pitching before home town lens for the first time this season showed remarkable speed and control during the nine inning contest as he struck out 21 Wheatley batters and allowed only two hits, Clinton opened the scoring in the second inning when Archie Pickett received a walk and advanced to second on A bard hit bail by Don Bartliff which the third baseman could not handle. Two batters struck out before Davidge ripped a single into right field scoring Pickett and 13artliff. Wheatley had their best opportunity to hit the scoresheet in the top of the fourth inning when Clinton catcher Hans Leppington overthrew secondbaseman "Doc" Miller, The Wheatley runner, Dawson who had picked up a walk, tried to score from second on the play. Centre fielder Don Bartliff threw a perfect pitch to Leppington who Jagged the runner out at home, Clinton earned another run in the fifth on a single by Alan Howes and a booming triple by Leppington that travelled to the track in left field. Wheatley's third baseman made his' second error of the game on a hot drive by Rick From*, Plinton's lead off batter in the seventh. Clinton Pee Wee Ponies were eliminated from W.O,A.A. playoffs this week when they dropped a best two out of three series to Walkerton After winning the first game in Clinton by a 5 to 4 count, they dropped two close contests by scores of 8 to 7 and 3 to 1. Last Wednesday evening in Walkerton Danny Colquhoun scored in the first inning on Brian Langille's first hit of the game.' Walkerton built up a 6 to 1 lead in• the first on four hits and three Clinton errors. Pitcher Robbie Stirling was pulled and Steve Amsing came in to finish the inning with two strikeouts. Brian Langille took over the pitching duties in the second and gave up two runs to the Walkerton club — one in the fourth and the winning run in the eighth inning. He allowed only 'five hits in seven innings and excellent fielding from his teammates prevented Walkerton from building' up a larger score, Seven Walkerton base runners were picked off while attempting to steal. The Ponies ,scored three runs in the third, two more in the fourth and tied the game 7 to 7 in the fifth inning.
