Congratulations to Mrs.
George Hamilton who last
Sunday celebrated her 94th
birthday with a dinner at the
home of her son, Mr. Thomas
Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton of
Goderich. On Monday she was
also honoured with a birthday
cake by her friends at the
weekly 500 Club:
The annual Memorial service
at Hope Chap,i cAnetent will be
held next Sunday, September 1
at 3 p.m. Rev. C. B. Heckendorn
of Londesboro United Church
will be the guest speaker.
The August meeting of the
Auburn Women's Institute was
held in the Auburn Community
Memorial hall with a good
attendance. The president, Mrs.
Frank Raithby was in charge and
the meeting was opened with the
"Ode", the "Mary Stewart
Collect" and "0, Canada," with
Mrs. William J. Craig at the
piano.
Mrs. Raithby welcomed all
the members and visitors and the
minutes were accepted as read
by the secretary, Mrs. Bert Craig.
She also gave the financial
statement.
Plans were made to cater to
the dinner following the
centennial service of the Auburn
Baptist Church on September 8.
The committee in charge will be
Mrs. Bert Craig, Mrs. Donald
Haines, Mrs. Arnold Craig, Mrs.
Thomas Haggitt• and Mrs. Donald
Cartwright. _
A letter was read stating that
the Leathercraft course will be
held on May 5, • 6 and 7. A
discussion followed on the cook
books and a donation to the
kitchen was given by Mrs.
Thomas Lawlor. A solo
"Mocking Bird Hill" was sung by
Miss Lorraine Chamney
accompanied by her mother,
bulbs available at the next
Meeting and if Possible 'have
premium bulbs for Members.
Besides flower arranging at
the , September meeting each
member is asked, to bring a
flower arrangement with a
container which can be given as
door prizes. The program is in
charge Of Mrs. Wes Bradnock
and the lunch conveners are to
be Mrs. Russel Grindley and Mrs.
Ed Davies, and all take a pot
luck lunch.
The financial statement of
the Society was given by the
treasurer, Mrs. W. Bradnock.
After a discussion on future
.neetings the meeting was
adjourned.
Mrs. Gordon Chamney.
Mrs. Donald Cartwright,
convener of Citizenship and
Education, had as her guest
speaker, Mrs. Hugh Bennett of
Port, Albert. She was introduced
by Mrs. Donald Haines. Mrs.
Bennett spoke on the education
in the elementary schools today
and explained the mathematic
and science courses. On behalf
of the members, Mrs. Andrew
Kirkconnell thanked Mrs.
Bennett and presented her with
a gift.
The card report was given by
Mrs. Andrew Kirkconnell and
she read the thank-you notes
,received from sympathy and get
well cards sent the past month.
Mrs. Thomas Haggitt reported
on the Huronview auxiliary
meeting which she and Mrs.
Arnold Craig had attended. The
roll call was answered by each
member quoting a paragraph
from the W.I. Handbook. The
collection was taken by Lorraine
Charnney and Teresa Campbell
and the meeting was closed with
the "Queen" and the "Institute
Grace".
Lunch was served by the
hostesses, Mrs. Hugh Bennett
and Mrs. W. Bradnock. The prize
for having the lucky cup was
won by Mrs. Thomas Haggitt.
The Berean Unit of the uUW
met on Tuesday evening. The
president opened the meeting
with devotional readings. Hymn
578 "Sing to the Lord of
harvest" was sung, minutes were
read and approved. A motion by
Mrs. Townsend that we send a
donation to headquarters to
defray shipping charges for the
overseas bale was passed.
Thirty-seven sympathy and baby
cards have been sent.
. Kathleen McEwing gave two
lively instrumentals and two
vocal numbers,by Lloy Shaddick
and Wendy Caldwell
accompanied by Mrs. Allen
Shaddick were enjoyed. Mrs.
Jones gave the chapter from
' Profiles of Japan".
A social cup of tea was
enjoyed at the close.
Mr. and Mrs., Norman Griffith
of Niagara Falls called on
relatives and friends in the
village on Thursday.
Mrs. J.T. White of Springfield
called on Mrs. Bert Allen and
Mrs. Lily Webster on Thursday
and wished to be remembered to
all old friends of former days.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Radford
visited recently , with Mr. and
Mrs. Gordon Radford.
Obituary
MRS. JOHN ARTHUR
VIP Ar0 services were field
last Thursday for Mrs. John
Arthur who passed away in
Huronview after a lengthy
illness.
She was the former Margaret
Youngblut, the daughter of
Werner Youngblut and Elizabeth
Lots and was horn in Hullett
Township. She was in, her 85th
year.
Mrs. Arthur had been a
lifetime resident of the Auburn
distrid and for many years was
the village dressmaker,
In 1918 she was married to
John Arthur who passed away
June 6, 1927. She was a member
of Knox United Church and of
the' W.C.S. for many years.
She is survived by three sons,
Keith, of Unionville; Harry and
Robert of Auburn and by two
daughters, Mrs. Gordon
(Marjorie) Wall of Hollyrood and
Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Davis of
Union and by 18 grandchildren.
The service, held at the
William Stiles Funeral Home,
was conducted by Rev. M. R.
,Roberts with interment in Ball's
cemetery.

Youngblut, Ivan Youngblut,
Thomas Haggitt, Harry Sturdy,
Charles Scott and Thomas
Johnston,
Miss Arbuckle spent a few
days last week with her cousin
Mrs. Morgan Jones,

Bert Allen on Friday.
