Care, courtesy and common
sense constitute key safety
factors that apply to operators'
of" tractors just as much as
drivers of other vehicles, the
Accident Prevention Advisory
Committee of the Dominion
Automobile Association
contends in drawing the
attention' of all the Canadian
public to vehicle safety on the
farm.
The tractor's potential as a
weapon ,of death is frequently
overshadowed by safe driving
publicity that tends to stress
automobile and truck traffic.
This farm vehicle kills or maims
more rural residents than all
other farm equipment
combined, the committee
reveals.
Only conscientious,

Applying the rules and

fatalities, one-third of which
occur on• the highways. It is
alarming to note that more than
25 percent of the fatalities
, involve young people under the
age of 20.
Safety education for all
tractor operators includes
these 12 .safety
commandments:
1. Be careful when entering
roads from farm driveways
and field exits.
2. Signal well ahead before
turning into farm entrances
or unto secondary roads
from highways.
3. Remove weeds, high

4. Slow down before
making turns on hillsides
and rough ground and
whenever entering fields
from the highway. Apply
power smoothly.
5. Do not allow riders on
the tractor or other
equipment.
