Men's softball
Clinton's entry in the men's
softball league dropped a game
to B. R. Robinson by a score of
14 to 4 last week.
The Goderich team scored 12
runs in the first inning and were
never threatened. Hans
Leppington hit a home run in the
sixth inning with two men on
base for Clinton.
Clinton finished with an 8 - 4
record for the season and will
begin playoffs in the near future.
which went by the infield, only
one lofty ball was hit to the
outfield, and this was handled
routinely by outfielder Steve
Amsing,
The entire team played their
best fielding game of the year.
Catcher Mike Anstett retired
three men on pop up foul balls.
First baseman Brian Kennedy
made several fine catches in
assisting putouts.
In the fourth inning, the first
Listowel batter received a walk,
and stole second but was tagged
out by Danny Colquhoun when
he was trapped between second
and third on ahit by the second
,batter. The second batter was
put out by Colquhoun on a
perfect peg from catcher Mike
Anstett.
In the fifth inning, two hard
hit balls were handled by
shortstop Brian Langille who
fielded the balls on crazy hops
and threw the batters out at first
base.
The two Listowel pitchers
couldn't stop' Langille at the
plate. In five times at bat he
connected for a single, a double,
and two triples. His first triple in
the sixth inning drove in three
runs.

The annual junior golf
tournament was held at the
Bayfield-Clinton Golf Course
June, 23. Golfers were competing
for the Stew Cook Memorial
Trophy.
Winners were; Age 14 to 16,
Gary Cummings, Gary was tied
with Gordon Lavis at the end of
18 holes, and was declared
winner after two extra holes had
been played.
Age 11 to 13, Wayne

Age 10 and under, Bob

After golf, a delicious meal
was served by Mrs. Hulls and
staff. Background of the Stew
Cook Memorial Trophy was
explained to the boys by Mr.
Stevens of • 'Toronto,
out 14 hits and scored 17 runs,,
Robbie Stirling held the
Listowel nine to one run on
three hits, His curve and drop
ball kept the opposition gnessing
for the entire game.
Except for the three hits
brother-in-law of the late Stew

Bert Gray presented trophies
to the winners,
Mr. and Mrs. Hulls must be
commended for their interest in
the junior golfing population of
the area.
Kay Sharpe, a member of the
club, recently played in the
Business Girls' Tournament at
the Strathroy Golf Club. She
won the low gross inter group
class, and took home a chaise

Dave Hallman, another club
member, while playing at Grand

his last three holes. On the 16th
hole he had a par three, on the

dream -- a hole in one, and
finished the game with a birdie
on the 18th.

Bantams compiled a 7 - 2 record,
while the Pee Wees won all 10
games in their schedule,
In recent games I note several
parents and fans are beginning to
attend both home and away
games, and I am sure this is a
great boost for the boys. At
Listowel on Thursday evening,
10 adults and eight children
accompanied the Pee Wees, and
they witnessed one of the best
games the local boys have played
this year. '
The Pee Wees are entered in
the All Canada Pee Wee
Tournament at Listowel from
August 3 to 5., They are classed
with Listowel, Petrolia and
Kincardine in the "B" class.
They will play their first game at
12 o'clock Saturday.
