Collars Belts, Shirts
Acid Zip to NQW Styles
In the spririgtime, the suits
come out to'bask in the sun-
light --- but now there's a dif-
ference, The real suit is the
top fashion and it steals the
scene with .a new pigpatarQ of
softness.
"WS chic to be feminine,
passe to be a tomboy," says
the Nationall3oard of the Coat
and Suit Indpstry.
Waistlines are really there
not just suggested.
For cheers there is the spit
with two tiers; the skirt and
Jacket flare like twin bells, The
bellhop suit palls for admira-
tion. On the other 4ide of the
coin is the sweater-type tunic
jacket or the self-belted bush
jacket. All adopt the new mo-
bile skirts.
Belts appear often — some=
times just in. front, .or back,
Updated variations of the
chain belt still captivate, Self-
belts With widet fiat buckles
are in — wide, leather belts,
slim ones. Other belts are
placed under the bosun.
Collars turn up high — and
the Mao commands attention,
Squared,off necklines, half
collars, and casual shirt eel,

jars again say "'Yes, fashion."
Shirt.looks Put zing into the •
all-girl look. Easy does it with
buttoned cuffs, slit sides, but,

silken shirt shown with so
many of the new suits,
The big prize goes to either
the ruffled shirt with collar

Fabrics are lightweight,

fleeces, ineltons and shetlandS.
Tweeds are softies, too,
Colors pale in the romantic

from gentle sea breeze greens

The innocent look of the
peter pan collar is interpreted
in a variety of smaller collars
for coats, too.
Softly-tied necklines, seen
throughout the variety of
spring fashions, shape up for
coats as ascot-tie collars.
Another feature of fashion,
,the belt, marks a number of

the natural waistline, some-
times as graceful ties. At the
back, half-belts dip and curve.
All-around belts of fabric or
leather take many directions.
Shirt looks are now only
hinted at with side slits, but-
ton fronts and cuffs. Neat, not
overdone, is the news for this
season of the subtle, the sleek,
the young sophisticates.
Color is exciting but more
subdued in keeping with the
important all-girl look. Saucy
reds, oranges, parrot greens,
directoire blue vie with ro-
mantic corals, pinks, peaches,
soft and dreamy sea tints,
powder and prettygirl blues

parade. Pristine white, navy,

er choices.

Suits. Co Top Fashion
Coming out for spring is the "dandy" suit. This one, in navy and white
lightweight wool gabardine, has its own white silk blouse, with big red
satin bow and wide patent leather belt. Photos above and at right, cour-

Coats Focus on Fit and Flare
Coats report for spring hap-
penings, outings, vacations, jet
travel—for nippy breezes sud-
den and sharp. This spring's
coat styles cater ,to the soft,
romantic look but at the same
time reserve plenty of gusto.
Soft movement moves in
with mobile skirts, fit at the
,waist, high under arms, defin-
ing the bosom once more. Even
in back, pleats, -panels;„belts,
seaming play pretty tricks,
Capes fly in with new grace
— short ones or full length but
not quite as wide.
They're sleek-fitting and
soft as dresses — dresses that
button like coats.
There are new guardsmen
effects, shapely coats with offi-
cer's collars and the gleam of
buttons, brass side-effects.
Collars go chin-up to be

Colourful Spring Blends Are
Here Now To Suit Men
Men's suits for spring greet the season with their liveliest
colors and patterns in years, according to the American Insti-
tute of Men's and Boys' Wear.
In all styles, colors are much lighter, without looking like
the "ice cream" shades of Dad's youth, These new suit colors
are achieved in the weaving via multi-colored mixtures. Suits
often blend four, five, six and even seven colors. When those
colors are further enhanced by being woven into plaids, checks
and stripes, the results are smart without being garish.
(leeks, Plaids, Stripes Have Variety
The glen plaids continue their booming popularity in all sizes
— moderate, larger authentic squares and full-scale giant plaids.
"Mini-sizes" check in with the traditional favorites of shep-
herds and houndstooths checks on this spring's pattern popu-
larity parade, and, in addition to the new multi-color mixtures,
they will he seen in the simple smartness of black-and-white.
There is a pick of stripes'for the suit shopper — pin-, pencil-,
chalk-, and multi-stripes. They are especially attractive in
double-breasted suits and the newly popular "shaped" models.
The waist is back in a big way in suits for spring. Shape —
which means varying amounts of waist suppression in the suit
coat — continues to hit new popularity peaks with each season,
and spring 1968 is no exception.
These figure-flattering suits are usually complemented with
deep side- or center-vents and many of the more casual versions
also have angled hacking pockets that are topped on the right
Side by a small ticket pocket.
bouble-Ereasted Snit Arrives
The man who prefers the traditional natural-shoulder look
has plenty of designs to choose from, but chances are he will
find that these are nipped in at the waist a bit,
The double-breasted suit is definitely here, and the Man who
likes a little variety in his wardrobe will probably want one of
these models in his closet,
Lapels tend to the wider, with many peaked lapels seen.
