Street Graded Twice
Deputy-Reeve William McKen
zie stated the streets had been
graded twice and 5,000 yards of-
gravel laid.
He recommended the town ac
quire its own road maintainer
to keep the roads in better
shape.
The deputy-reeve reported the
county had purchased an asphalt
grader and that hospitalization
had cost Huron $’35,000 this
year.
Councillor Edward Brady said
a lot of money was spent on the
arena and he anticipated a lot
of money can be made out of
it. He was .hesitant about quali
fying but desired to see the
completion of the arena. He is
chairman of the board.
Recreation Plans
Activities of the Recreation
Council were reported by Andrew
Snelgrove. He said the Council
was planning to provide recrea
tion for all age groups.
With the help of the Kinsmen
Club and other organizations, it
had financed Saturday morning
classes, summer playground,
minor baseball. Recreation Dir
ector Doug Smith was hired by
the council to manage the arena
and organize recreation, with
Derry Boyle as assistant. The
Council had organized a Minor
Hockey Association to provide
hockey for boys of all ages and
a skating club was being organ
ized for girls.
With the cooperation of the
Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Sunday
evening concerts would be pre
sented during the winter. Under
consideration also was the forma
tion of a drama club, and a
“second mile” club. He suggest
ed the council may have to ask
the town for a irant next year.
Declined Office
Councillor Eugene Beaver con

nominees for council, slated they
would not run. Richard Jermyn,
another nominee, was undecided.
Carfrey Cann was the only
nominee for the school, board
who spoke. He was undecided.
A letter from school board
secretary, Herman Hodgson, stat
ed the hoard estimated a surplus
of $7,000' this year and antici
pated it could maintain the
school on the same grant ($27,*
000) as last year.
Construction to the school is
necessary to provide for in
creased enrolments but there
would be some relief in the fact
that the last debenture on the
