Norma Wilson and Audrey : Bentley were named as captains of two teams to determine the amount of sales on tickets for the Christmas doll. Gwyn Whil- siuith gave a report on Sunday j evening concerts planned by the group and the recreational council for the winter. The first oi these concerts was scheduled (for Sunday, December 7 featur­ ing the Huronia Mule Choir. For the program, small talks on happiness were given by in­ dividual members. Audrey Bent­ ley explained happiness through help and happiness at work and play was given by Flora Doerr. Elsie Turkey talked on happiness through emotion. Lucy Klurnpp and Gwyn Whilsmith also con­ tributed to this part of the pro­ gram. Wilda Buswell was appointed to pack gifts which will he sent to the Children’s Aid Society at Goderich. The gift for the eve­ ning- was won by Mrs. F. J. Milner. The evening ended with lunch, served by Irene Sweet, Irene Beaupre and Jean Miller. Young, and piano solo “Star of the East,” by Mrs. Paul Schenk. The president, Mrs. E. Wen­ zel, was in charge of business. It was decided to donate $50 to the South Huron Hospital Build­ ing Fund. An exchange of gifts followed. A dainty lunch was served by the c ommittee in charge, reciation was expressed to hostess and all others assisted. Silver Wedding Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Tilley, who marked the twenty-fifth anniversary of their marriage, were at home to 42 relatives and friends who gathered to spend a social evening and extend good wishes. During the evening, Mr, Ed. Lamport read a well worded address and numerous gifts, in­ cluding a silver tea service and silver based trilight lamp, were presented by Mrs. Allen Pfaff, Sidney Neeb, Fred Tilley and Don Jory. Mr. and Mrs. Tilley were united in marriage by the late Rev. E. A. Hiscocks at the home of Mrs. Tilley’s parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. William Witzel. They have three children, Frede­ rick, Mrs. (Ila) Jory, of Exeter, and Winnifred, of Clinton. Street Graded Twice Deputy-Reeve William McKen­ zie stated the streets had been graded twice and 5,000 yards of- gravel laid. He recommended the town ac­ quire its own road maintainer to keep the roads in better shape. The deputy-reeve reported the county had purchased an asphalt grader and that hospitalization had cost Huron $’35,000 this year. Councillor Edward Brady said a lot of money was spent on the arena and he anticipated a lot of money can be made out of it. He was .hesitant about quali­ fying but desired to see the completion of the arena. He is chairman of the board. Recreation Plans Activities of the Recreation Council were reported by Andrew Snelgrove. He said the Council was planning to provide recrea­ tion for all age groups. With the help of the Kinsmen Club and other organizations, it had financed Saturday morning classes, summer playground, minor baseball. Recreation Dir­ ector Doug Smith was hired by the council to manage the arena and organize recreation, with Derry Boyle as assistant. The Council had organized a Minor Hockey Association to provide hockey for boys of all ages and a skating club was being organ­ ized for girls. With the cooperation of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Sunday evening concerts would be pre­ sented during the winter. Under consideration also was the forma­ tion of a drama club, and a “second mile” club. He suggest­ ed the council may have to ask the town for a irant next year. Declined Office Councillor Eugene Beaver con­ gratulated council on its activ­ ities and said he would not qualify.
