The October meeting was held
in the church with president,
Airs, K. McLaren, presiding1.
Prayer was given by Mrs. T.
Jolly.
A letter of thanks from Miss
E. Bingeman, Toronto, for the
flannelette blankets sent for mis
sionary hope chest, was read. It
was decided to purchase another
pair for the shower at the Nov
ember meeting as blankets are a
welcome gift for outgoing mis
sionaries. Mrs, C. Blanchard and
Airs, Kendrick were appointed to
purchase them,
A discussion about buying sa
tin binding to bind woollen blan
kets for the nursery resulted in
Mrs. E. Cudmore being appoint
ed responsible. The November
meeting will be held in the eve
ning of November 27 at the
home of Mrs. E. Cudmore with
the Challengers group as guests.
Mrs. Kendrick read an article
from the Missionary Action on
June Deacon’s school in Kenya.
June’s home was in London,
Ont., before going to Kenya.
Mrs. C. Blanchard addressed the
meeting. Her theme: “God will
provide/’ Brayer bulletins were

Experiences Emergency Landing
Airs, George Ecclestone is
home after an extensive two-
month tour of the Continent and
England.
Mrs, E. is an ardent air
traveller and experienced thrill
ing moments when, due to
engine trouble, the plane made
an emergency landing in. Sussex.
After attending the conference
in Geneva, Mrs. Ecclestone tour
ed Italy, France and Holland.
She spent a fortnight in London.
On her return journey,
“Million Mile” Jones, of Royal
Tour fame, was pilot and the
route, via Iceland, where the
passengers disembarked to shop
while the plane refueled.
Airs. Ecclestone expects to
follow her sister, Mrs. E. Strath
in eyer, and Mr. Strathmeyer to
California next week.

Teachers Meet
At Wingham
One hundred and four elemen
tary school teachers from, Wiar-
ton to London, attended the fall
conference of region one, Wo
men Teachers’ Federation of
Ontario, at Wingham, Saturday.
The meeting was conducted by
Miss Lottie Robinson, Goderich,
a director for region one.
Reports were presented as
follows: Legislation, Miss Mar
tha Scobbie, Stratford; teacher
education and certification, Miss
Roberta Edmonstone, of Owen
Sound; education and finance,
Miss Mary Graham, of Dresden;
status, Miss Gladys McDowell, of
Goderich; superannuation, Miss
Dorothy Coutts, London; educa
tional research, Miss Julia Mac
Intyre, St. Marys; good will
fund, Miss- Lottie Robinson, of
Goderich; sick benefit, Mrs. May
Smith, Meaford, and the bene
volent fund, Miss Isobel Fox, of

The Lions Cluh party for
young folk Hallowe’en was
grand success. The judges, Mrs.
Ravelie, Mrs. AlacLaren, Lions
Wilson and Rendle reported a
difficult task in juding the fine
costumes. All the children re
reived consolation prizes.

McIlroy Appointed
Acting Reeve
Eric McIlroy is acting reeve
of Grand Bend during the ab
sence of Reeve Herman Gill, who
is in hospital. Mr. McIlroy was
elected by the village council at
a recent meeting last week.
Mr. McIlroy was also appoint
ed the permanent representative
of Grand Bend to the Ausable
River Conservation Authority.
Action is to be taken against
the party who moved the build
ing onto the cut-flats, contrary
to the building by-law of the
municipality.
Tenders- are to be
