The cheerleaders at South Huron are chosen and trained by the cheerleaders of the previous year. They are usually students from the lowei' forms. To bp able to qualify as a cheerleader one must be willing to attend all the games and lead the cheering section. To cheer, a strong voice that will carry well is a “must” as it is necessary that the stu dents hear the yells so that they can join in. Compete For Trophy The cheer - leaders hold prac tices twice weekly in activity periods. This time is spent work ing out routines and preparing new yells. Their routines are simple, consisting chiefly of rhythmic movement of the arms, cartwheels -and somersaults. Uni formity of movement is a neces sity and to attain this they must practise. If the basketball teams are successful and go to the finals in London they give the cheerleaders trophy. His full name is Hinterland Henry but we refer to him as “Hinty”. He is a black and white panda bear with a large red bow around his neck. He is the school mas cot and was presented to the school in 19 50 by the first Sen team. cham- hasn’t travels spends The cheerleaders are also sing ers. They lead us in singing our school song. In addition to these renova tions, a playing field has been made to’ the east end of the school. This field is a miniature copy of the Western University field.
