Meeting The August meeting of the W.A. and W.M.S. was held at the home of Mrs. Reg, Hodgert on Wednesday evening with 31 members and four visitors pre­ sent. Mrs. James Kirkland, third .vice-president of the W.M.S., was in charge of the meeting. Mrs. Kirkland led in prayer. Mrs. Melvin Gardiner read the Scripture Lesson. A poem, “Who” was read by Mrs. Wil­ liam El ford. Mrs. Charles Borland was in charge of the program which consisted of a piano solo by Agnes Bray and a poem, “My Neighbour Across the Road”, by Mrs. Mac Hodgert. Mrs. Stanley Coward gave the topic “The Testing Days After the War”. Mrs. Coward gave a reading, “The Gradaution of Girls from the Training School in Toronto”. Lucan News Girls’ Club Rrogrmn The Girls’ Home Garden Clubs of Middlesex County has extend­ ed an invitation to all Women’s Institute members to attend their Achievement Day on Aug­ ust 20 in the Lucan Community Memorial Arena. The afternoon program begins at 1.30 pan. There will he a display of vegetables, flowers and canned tomatoes. There will also be skits, food demonstra­ tions, as well as club exhibits. Mrs. Harvey Hodgins and Mrs Jack Murdy attended the zone contests for amateur airmen on Saturday at Brantford. Lucan’s representative, Roscoe Hodgins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hodgins, took fourth and fifth place among 10 contestants. Mr. and Mrs. A. AV. Murdock have returned home aftei' a two week’s vacation at Kingston and Cornwall. Harry Horne, 69, Toronto food maker, was critically hurt in a car accident just north of the city recently. Mr. Horne was raised on Alice St., Lucan. Mr. and Mrs. Les Woodward and son and Mrs, I. Gibson have returned home from their trip to Winnipeg. Mr. and Mrs. M. Skinner and family, of Painesville, Ohio, are spending a few weeks with Mr. Eli Thompson. Mrs. Viola Jenkins and family are holidaying in their Lucan home. Provincial Constable and Mrs. A. E. Reilly have returned home from a two-week vacation at Dunchurch. Mr. and Mrs. E. D. Haist and daughter, Joan Ariel, of Ridgeville, were vacationing with them, Mr. and Mrs. A. Hedden visit­ ed with Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Caldwell at Sheddon last week. Mr. Ray Simpson, of Weston, spent the weekend with his sister, Mrs. T. S. Hill and Mr. Hill. Anne Marie Murdy is holiday­ ing with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Murdy, of Stratford. Mrs. I. Gibson and Ronnie, Mrs. N. Mr. Harry Bawden, formerly of Lucan, has been moved from Toronto to Richmond Hill, where he has been made manager of the Bank of Nova Scotia. His Lucan friends offer hearty con­ gratulations. Marlys Morgan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Morgan, of Sarnia, is holidaying with her cousin, Carolyn Odd, while her parents are in Buffalo. Clare Sceli, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Sceli, is now in Victoria Hospital for polio treatments. Latest reports say he is making satisfactory progress. Clare is a promising young musician. Among those who attended the races in Toronto on Saturday were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Park, Mal­ colm Hodgins, Ray Hodgins, Grant Hodgins and Tom Collins. The Wesley Church, London Township, is rapidly nearing completion. Five of the glass windows are installed. Hard­ wood floors are laid and the cement floor in the basement is completed.
