The August meeting of the
W.A. and W.M.S. was held at
the home of Mrs. Reg, Hodgert
on Wednesday evening with 31
members and four visitors pre
sent. Mrs. James Kirkland, third
.vice-president of the W.M.S., was
in charge of the meeting. Mrs.
Kirkland led in prayer.
Mrs. Melvin Gardiner read
the Scripture Lesson. A poem,
“Who” was read by Mrs. Wil
liam El ford.
Mrs. Charles Borland was in
charge of the program which
consisted of a piano solo by
Agnes Bray and a poem, “My
Neighbour Across the Road”, by
Mrs. Mac Hodgert. Mrs. Stanley
Coward gave the topic “The
Testing Days After the War”.
Mrs. Coward gave a reading,
“The Gradaution of Girls from
the Training School in Toronto”.

Girls’ Club Rrogrmn
The Girls’ Home Garden Clubs
of Middlesex County has extend
ed an invitation to all Women’s
Institute members to attend
their Achievement Day on Aug
ust 20 in the Lucan Community
Memorial Arena.
The afternoon program begins
at 1.30 pan. There will he a
display of vegetables, flowers
and canned tomatoes. There will
also be skits, food demonstra
tions, as well as club exhibits.
Mrs. Harvey Hodgins and Mrs
Jack Murdy attended the zone
contests for amateur airmen on
Saturday at Brantford. Lucan’s
representative, Roscoe Hodgins,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Hodgins, took fourth and fifth
place among 10 contestants.
Mr. and Mrs. A. AV. Murdock
have returned home aftei' a two
week’s vacation at Kingston and
Cornwall.
Harry Horne, 69, Toronto
food maker, was critically hurt
in a car accident just north of
the city recently. Mr. Horne was
raised on Alice St., Lucan.

and son and Mrs, I. Gibson have
returned home from their trip
to Winnipeg.

family, of Painesville, Ohio, are
spending a few weeks with Mr.

Marlys Morgan, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Morgan, of
Sarnia, is holidaying with her
cousin, Carolyn Odd, while her
parents are in Buffalo.
Clare Sceli, 12-year-old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Sceli, is
now in Victoria Hospital for
polio treatments. Latest reports
say he is making satisfactory
progress. Clare is a promising
young musician.

the races in Toronto on Saturday
were: Mr. and Mrs. J. Park, Mal
colm Hodgins, Ray Hodgins,
Grant Hodgins and Tom Collins.
The Wesley Church, London
Township, is rapidly nearing
completion. Five of the glass
windows are installed. Hard
wood floors are laid and the
cement floor in the basement is
completed. This new church has
been built this summer after it
was decided the old church was
too far gone to be repaired.
