There are several cases of the mumps in our community. Miss Betty Mair entertained a number of young people on Fri­ day evening. Mr. and Mrs. Mac Hodgert had their son, John Raymond, christened on Christmas Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Carey Joynt of Worcester, Mass., are holidaying with Mr. and Mrs. Archie Mor­ gan. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stewart, Mr. Aimer Stewart, Glen and Floyd, spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs. Archie Morgan. Mr. and Mrs. Riney Keller, Norma and Lome visited on Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. William Rohde. Norma stayed for a few- days. KIPPEN School Concert The annual Christmas co.ncert I of S.S. 14 Stanley was held on Tuesday evening. The School was beautifully decorated with Christmas scenes and a gaily colored Christmas tree. Mr. Nel­ lis acted as chairman. After an excellent progam, Santa appeared and distributed the gifts. The teacher, Miss Dorothy Turner was presented with a lamp by her pupils. Holland was the home of free­ dom of the press in the early 16th century. Saintsbury Guild Holds Annua I Meeting The annual meeting of the guild of St. Patrick's church was held at- the home of Mrs. R. Greenlee with Mr. C. Davis, president, in the chair. The' meeting was in the form of a Christmas party with exchange of gifts for all and a pantry shower for Mr. and Mrs. Griffin. Money was voted for the Sick Children’s Hospital, London, and Miss L. Powell, missionary in Japan. The meeting was closed by the Rev. Griffin and Mrs. Greenlee assisted by Mrs. G. Davis and Miss A. Davis served lunch. Mrs. W. J. Davis and Ivan held a family gathering recently when Mr. and Mrs. M.x Abbott, Clayton, Billy, Edith and Paul­ ine, Mr. and Mrs. I). Abbott and Sandra, Mr. L. Maguire, of Scot­ land, Ontario, apd Mr. and Mrs. C. Davis Cameron and Sharon were dinner guests. Mr. Gordon Oke, Miss Lila Oke, Mrs. Helen Atkinson, Mr. Paul Klembe, and Bill Wilson called on Mr. and Mrs. Herman Atkinson and family Christmas Eve. Mr. and Mrs. C. BRINSLEY The rite of Confirmation is to be administered at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Brinsley, at 11 a.m. Sunday, January 26. The Right Rev. G. N. Luxton, Bishop of Huron, -will confirm the -can­ didates. We are sorry to report at the time of writing that Mrs. John Tweddle is a patient of St. Jo­ seph’s Hospital, London. Annual Meeting Of Kirkton Public School The annual school meeting was held in the Kirkton public school room, Wednesday, De­ cember 26, with the usual at­ tendance. Lome Marshall was appointed to act as chairman. The usual school business was dealt with and the trustees are •Mr. James Willis, Earl Watson, the new trustee, and Stewart Shier. Mrs. George Hall was again appointed as janitor. The auditors, -Mr. Arnold Wiseman and I. N. Marshall, found the books correct. Rev. and Mrs. And er s o n, Helen and Robert, spent the Christmas holiday with Mrs. Anderson’s mother at New Ham­ burg. Christmas family gatherings in and around the village were at the homes ol’ Mr. Everett Doupe, Mr. Lewis Fletcher, Mrs. R. Humphreys, Eldon Robinson, I. N. Marshall and many others. Those out of town were Dr. G. H. Jose with Dr. Jack Jose at St. Marys; G. H. Mr. -Malcoln Malloy is on the sick list and has not been at the Budden store this week. Many citizens attended the opening of the Kirkton com­ munity rink on Saturday. Mr. Jack Switzer was taken to St. Marys Memorial Hospital where he had an operation for appendicitis and reports show he is doing well. Candlelight Service A large congregation attended the candlelight service held at the United Church Sunday when a choir of 30 voices provided music. Soloists were Vesta Wat­ son, Dawn Blackler, Rosemary Dobson, Bonny Arnold, Alien e- Selves, Doris Levy, Billy,, Mar­ shall. They Were accompanied by pianist Mrs. C. A. Campbell. .
