The motto was “Knowledge is the wings where by we fly to heaven” and the roll call was to name a song' and its composer. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Harvey Kennedy. Mrs. James Resdou of Ebene- g^r gave a talk on Education. Mrs. George Fitz was appointed delegate to the convention in London. Plans were made to re decorate the Institute Hall. A lunch was served by the educa tion committee. The principal of the school, Mr. Morgenroth, gave a short talk explaining the formation of a Home and School in Lucan. The guest speaker was Mr. J. K. Mather, educational guidance teacher and vice-principal of Medway School. He was intro duced by Mr. J. McLean in a few well chosen words. The mothers turned out well for the meeting but the fathers were very few. Mr. Mather suggested Lucan use the point system in which each mother out but for each five points. Mr. Mather gave a splendid address on the theme “Partner ship of teacher and parents in child development”, emphasizing the necessityzof a united front on studying the personality of each child. The sympathy of the whole village is extended to the Rev. L. Harrison in the latest blow which has fallen upon him. Some months ago he underwent two operations. On Sunday he entered the hospital for another, not on his bad knee but his good knee. For some weeks even with two canes he has been walking with great difficulty. Hodgins with 15 present. Mrs. A. Macintosh presided. The delegates for the conven tion are Mrs. Macintosh and Henry. The Girls Garden won first prizes at London Strathroy fairs. Mrs. Henry a reading and Mrs. Murray Lewis gave three household hints. Cur rent events were given by Mrs. Murray Thompson, Mrs. Mitchell, the district pre sident, visited the Institute and spoke to the ladies. A smocking demonstration was given by Mrs. A. Blake. Mrs, K. O’Neil won the contest. Deanery Meeting The fall meeting of West Mid dlesex Deanery was held in the Anglican Church, Ailsa Craig, on Tuesday afternoon, October 16. At this meeting Mrs. Chapman of Byron, the Deanery secretary treasurer, was presented with a life - membership certificate and gold W.A. pin in recognition of her faithful service. One of the bishop’s messeng ers, Mrs. Turnbull, gave a most enlightening address on the work which is carried on by these wo men in Western Canada. Another landmark has moved from the village, chopping mill owned by Herman Langford has been to Mr. George Webber of Gran ton, Mr. Langford purchased the mill 12 years ago from Mr. Jim McCullough. Mr. and Mrs, Wes Morgan of Hamilton spent Wednesday as guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ceafur Atkinson. Mrs. Es. Hodgson is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Trevethick, in Dearborn, Mich., and her son, the Rev. Burton Hodgson, of St. Clair, Mich. Several ladies attended the bazaar at Brinsley Anglican Church on Thursday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Whitmore Sr. spent the week-end in Detroit with friends. Mrs. Ed Flynn, Mrs. Karl O’Neil, Mrs. Aimer Hendrie and Mrs. Andy Carter. Members of St. James W.A. attended the Deanery meeting in Ailsa Craig on Tuesday afternoon. Mr, and Mrs. Reg Clipperton and family of Varna have moved into Mrs. Hasley’s apartment. Many families had to eat cold meals on Sunday due to no hy-- dro all day. Hydro men were working in Lucan to change from 4,000 to 8,000 volts so as to give better distribution of power. Mr. Roy JJennis of Lucan spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Louis Raycraft. Mr. Smith from Huron College took the service at St. James’ Church on Sunday. The Rev. L. C. Harrison, rector, went to St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Wilmer Scott and family were guests for sup per of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert Wil liams on Sunday. McAnd rew of Vancouver spent some weeks visiting friends and rela tives in the Lucan vicinity whom they hadn't seen for 45 years.
