For Clinton, Carter’s long triple and a double by pitcher Patterson were the only blows from Russell’s offering. The town kids pounded out eight hits off Patterson’s slants. Top batters for Exeter were McFalls and Bob Russell three for four, followed by Hicks and Donnie Wells two for four.. Bantams Win Opener , On Thursday night, Auburn bantam baseball club took an 11-4 defeat in the opening game at Exeter. Exeter scored 11 runs on 10 hits to Auburn’s four runs on 6 hits. For Exeter, the leading hitters were Wells, Wade, Pars Ford, McFalls and Lyne. Chuck Parsons* hurled innings, striking * out ten and allowing five hits. Ten-year- old Jim Russell threw the last inning and gave up only one hit. Rick McFalls threw the batter out at third base. Lose To Goderich On Friday night, Exeter midr gets travelled to Goderich, los­ ing to the laketown boys 5-1. Some thirty j members had dinner together, j soon after the crowd grew larg­ er. The younger folk held a ball game after which races were as follows; little tots under five, Joan Pawliw; boys six to seven, Larry Lovie; eight to nine, Har­ old Pym; 10 to 12, Jackie Pym; young ladies, Iva, Donna Bullock married ladies, Ina Panliw; sin­ gle men, Bob Smith; married men, Bill Bullock jr. Othei’ races were won by Lovie, Stewart, Joe, Roy Johnnie Bullock, Eloise Pym Marjorie Schofield. Ladies the match box race. S. f.lenl Orfit*. Sheppard Picnic Features Sports The foutrh annual Sheppard picnic was held recently at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Thompson, R.R. S, Parkhill with a full attendance. A full afternoon of sports were enjoyed by all. On the sports committee were: Mrs. Da­ vid Holland, Mr. Duncan Mc­ Naughton and Mr. Murray Shep­ pard. The usual races for the young­ er members were carried on with the following results. Gill Robinson was the winning pitcher with Jim Hayter behind the plate. Bob Hayter was best at the plate with two for five. Adams started for Goderich; was replaced by Young in the fourth. The lakeshore nine were shut­ out until the seventh when they scored their first run. They got two in each of the eighth and ninth. Dashwood only hit four safe­ ties but nine errors by Goderich gave them their win.
