Mark Children’s Day In United Church Children’s Day was recognized in the' United Church by holding a Flower and Children’s Service. Lodge Hall, ly with baskets of red peonies, was the setting Wednesday eve­ ning for the meeting of Amber Rebekah Lodge, for w'hich special guests for this occasion were Morning Star Rebekah Lodge of Brussels. Over sixty members and guests were present, Mrs| Evelyn McBeath, N.G., of Hensall lodge, presided. Mrs. Leona Parke and Mrs. Jessie D o u g a 1 1 were presented with gifts in* recognition of their valu­ able assistance in connection with the degree team—the form­ er as captain, and the latter as assistant. Miss A. Consitt pre­ sented the gifts. For the recreational period, bingo was featured with P. L. McNaughton as master of cere­ monies. Winners were Mrs. Anna Walker, Mrs. Inez McEwan, Mrs. Evelyn McBeath, Mrs. Olive Kyle, Mrs. Ada Taylor, Mrs. Lil­ lian Hyde, Mrs. Ross Richardson, Norman Jones, all of- Hensall; Mrs. Winnifred Edgar, and Mrs. Ethel Long, Brussels. A lovely crocheted chair set, made and donated by Miss Mabel Whiteman of Kippen, was drawn for. Mr, Len Purdy, who was in­ jured recently when he fell from a scaffold at Grand Bend, has returned home from St. Joseph’s Hospital, London, and is improv­ ing nicely. Mrs. John Hey program convener was in charge and opened with prayer followed with a solo, “The Lord’s prayer” by Mr. Stanley Gingerich. Mrs. J. Manson read the Bible-Lesson. Mrs. H. McEwan of Hensall favoured with two solos, “Bless this House” and “How lovely are thy dwellings”. Miss Gladys Luker was accompanist. Mrs. Hey contributed a poem .and Messrs Newell Geiger and Stan­ ley Gingerich favoured with vo­ cal duetts (unaccompanied). “Tis the love that carries a Cross”, and “Kneeling at the place of Prayer”. Mrs. Newell Geiger presented the St,udy book Chapter, “Village and Open Country”. A lovely birthday cake lighted with a candle was viewed by all. A birthday offering for’the W. Mac- key Fund was received. Mrs. L. O’Brien as delegate reported on the 32nd annual Convention held in Rodney -May 30. Plans were drawn up for 'a Home-Baking sale to take place in the Zurich Town Hall Saturday afternoon, June 23. The next meeting will be held in September. Nicol, ACCO, organist of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall, will ’leave for Timmins in September for a year’s leave to be music supervisor in the schools there, filling in for the regular music supervisor, -who will be away for a year. A The annual birthday party of the Presbyterian Women's Mis­ sionary Society will be held in Carmel Church Thursday after­ noon, June 14, at 3 o’clock. On this occasion the ladies are cor­ dially inviting the sister societies of the United and Anglican Churches to attend. On Saturday afternoon, June 16, at 4 p.m. a home-baking sale will be held in the Sunday School room of the United Church, afternoon tea will 'be served.
