Ross Former Cpyndfcr Samuel K. Ross died in Clift-| week with Mr. ton Monday April 2, 1950 in his 90th year. His wife, Elizabeth Towers predeceased him Decem­ ber 10, 1948. He was born near Peterborough but came to Blan- shard township with Abraham Johnston when seven years old. He lived with them unitl he was twenty-one, when he started to make his own way in the world. He "worked in Blanshard a number of years, then in Us- borne Township. Mr. Clarke had attained his ninetieth birthday last Aug­ ust and had spent the greater part of his long, useful life in this vicinity. Several of this community at­ tended the funeral of the late Mr. W. G. Medd in Main Street Church, Exeter, on Friday last. Mr. Medd was also a resident of Winehelsea for years. Ham Supper On Wednesday evening, March 2S. the ladies of W.A. of Olande- boye United Church held a ham supper in the basement, gram followed with Rev Cook as chairman. Mrs. Jack Freeborn of gave several humorous readings. A vocal trio by “Young sisters” of Lucan with Mrs. G. Maines as accompanist. Piano solos by Miss Audrey Tindall and Miss Norma June Hodgins of Benfield. Duet by Miss Elaine and Norma June Hudgins with Miss Tindall as accompanist. A good crowd at­ tended. The ladies report $64.85 : receipts of evening.II St. James’ W.A. The March meeting of the W.A. of St. James Church was B held at the home of Mrs, Aimer Hendrie. The president, Mrs. Ed Flynn, presided. Prayer for the sick was offered by Mrs. Alan Hill. The Litany was taken by Rev. Harrison and the scripture reading by Mrs. Mervin Carter, Roll call was taken and sugges­ tions given pertaining to the bale to be prepared in the near future. A paper on “Christian Stew­ ardship” was ably given by Miss Verna Cunningham and an in­ spiring message on Easter was told by Mrs. Ew Flynn. Ladies’ Guild The meeting of the Ladies’ Guild followed. The president, Mrs. Andy Carter, presided and opened the meeting with prayer. A committee of Mrs. A. Hen­ drie and Mrs. Ernie Lewis were named to purchase a vacuum cleaner to be used at the church, A discussion on redecorating the interior of the church was held and a committee was ap­ pointed to inquire as to costs and material, etc., and to report at the April meeting. Committee was named as follows: Rev. L. C. Harrison, Ernie Lewis, H. C. Murless and J. Hewitt. The meeting closed with the benedic­ tion by the rector. Personal Items Mr. Lome Derbyshire is spend­ ing a week with his daughter in Sarnia. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Raycroft have returned home after spend­ ing a couple of months with the latter’s father, Mr. of Sarnia. We are pleased to Gordon Cunningham from Victoria Hospital, London. Mrs. Mervin Carter and Mrs. and Mrs. Ernie McAphine visited on Tuesday with the latter’s sis­ ter, Mrs. Craig. Several attended Wingham Lucan were playing last week. We are sorry to report that Gerald McRann is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, fol­ lowing an attack of flu. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Simpson of London spent Sunday with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Simpson. Mary Anne Simpson, daugh­ ter of Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Simp­ son of Exeter, spent Easter holi­ days with her grandmother, Mrs. Joe Simpson. Miss Henderson of London spent the week-end with Mrs. Joe Simpson. Mrs. J. H. Paton attended the lodge meeting on Tuesday eve­ ning of “Edith Cavell” L.O.B.A. 285 in London. R.W.G.M. of Ontario West Mima Jackson of Owen Sound made her official visit. Officers were present from Edith Cavell, Lengemark, Har-* mony and Princess Mary present­ ed her with gifts. Members from Woodham and Lucan were pres­ ent. Over a hundred members attended after which dainty re­ freshments were served and a social time was spent.
