Willsmith was in charge of the Devotional exer­ cises taking prayer as her theme and was assisted by Mrs. Nixon, Miss Hatter, Mrs. Dow, Mrs. Kirk and Mrs. Moir. Mrs. W. Sillery read a number of in­ teresting items from the Glad Tidings. Mrs. Moir gave a report on the Exective meeting held in Clinton. Mrs. Mitchell closed with prayer. Exeter-Hensall branch of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union met at the home of Mrs. W. C. Pearce, Exeter, for their January meeting. Cook presented the Px*ayeys were offered W. Down, Mrs. W, E. Geiger. Mrs. W. J. tributed a poem, “The Secret of Morning Prayer”. The topic “Al­ cohol and Education in Public Schools” was presented by Mrs. E. Geiger of Hepsall, president of the union, in which she dis­ cussed the experiment being made in British Columbia schools, Alcohol education in B.C. does not form a separate course. The facts are integrated with the regular courses on the curricu­ lum, the science courses, Social Studies, Health and Guidance Causes. They are called studies in effective living and help young people to reach right conclusions, the speaker stated in her marks. Mrs. F. DaffodilsShowers Given For Miss Elfrieda Becker On Wednesday evening about twenty relatives, friends and neighbours gathered at the home of Mrs. Henry Becker Sr., Dash­ wood, for a surprise miscellan­ eous shower in honor of her daughter, Miss Elfrieda Becker. The evening was spent, by all enjoying contests and games. Misses Eleanor and Barbara Bec­ ker carried the basket of gifts into the room while the address was read by Becker. Grand Bend W.L Discusses Industry Grand Bend Women’s Institute held its first meeting for the year in the town hall with a good attendance of visitors ’and members. The president, Mrs. Ed Gill, who recently returned from a trip to California, was in charge. The roll call was answered with articles of apparel which the ladies had and were made in Canada. The response brought the names of many of Canada’s manufacturers. Mrs. Garnet Pat­ terson spoke on the motto, “He must be proud who tills the soil and turns the heavy sod, How’ wonderful a thing to be in part­ nership with God”. H. Rader became the bride of Ivan Delton, of Waterloo, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Taylor, Exeter with Rev. officiating.
