The Women’s Association of James Street United Church held the first meeting of the New Year in the church basement last Thursday afternoon with a fair attendance. Scripture and prayer were given by Mrs. Art Amy. Verna Coates gave an interesting reading on “A New Year’s Thought”. PHONE 71 EXETER I Trivitt Ladies’ Guild Entertains Cho ir The Ladies’ Guild of Trivitt Memorial Church entertained the members of the Choir and their friends to a dinner meeting in the Parish Hall on Friday eve ning. The committee in charge of this delightful affair consisted of Mrs. Charles Acheson, Mrs. R. Genttner and Mrs. C. L. Lang ford. After the sixty guests had par taken " ' ’ which rector, spoke briefly thanking those who were responsible for the joint gathering. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of a cheque from the Ladies’ Guild to Mr. Robert Cameron, the faithful and talented organist of Trivitt Mem orial Church. Mr, George Wright on behalf of the Ladies’ made the presentation. A program, including games and bingo, brought pleasant evening to a close with the singing of the. Mrs. William Morley Jr. gave the study book, “The Unit ed Church re-enters Japan,” pre pared by Mrs. Klhare. Mrs. Wil liam Morley Sr. gave a reading. The W.A. was in charge of Mrs. F. Squire. Theme of meet ing, “The Master Key to Life”. Scripture Reading was read by Mrs. Ken Hodgson. Prayer was offered by Mrs. French. Mrs. Gunning gave a reading. A short business meeting was held. Plans for raising money by a “travelling box”. A supper for the 16th of Febuary was dis cussed. Mr. and Mrs. Milne Pul len and Mr. and Mrs. Alton Neil were appointed as a committee i in charge of a “Crokinole Party” for the same evening. Reports were read from the “Treasurer” and “Good Cheer”. The new president, Bessie Johns took charge. Lillie and Helen led the Devotional period. Helen read a story after which Lois lead in prayer. Olive read the Scripture lesson. Various members took part in present ing a chapter of the Study Book, Helen gave several New Year poems. The next meeting will be held at the home of Betty Coates on the 13th of February, SET SOCIAL PRECEDENT — Ottawa social precedent was set when Hon. Rose Alexander was presented to her father, Gover nor-General Alexander, as the King’s official representative in Canada at the coming-out party for debutantes, attended by some 800 persons. The theme was “God working togeth er with us”. The chapter from the study book was presented in a very in teresting manner by the leaders. A duet“ Come to the Father He’s waiting for you” was sung by Mrs. Kenneth Hodgins and Mrs. Lloyd Hodgson. PrayerS were offered by Mrs. Hepburn for God’s guidence and strength as we enter a new year; by Mrs. McFalls for the work to which God calls us in our Church and in our society; for the work be ing carried on by our fellow Christians in Japan. The meeting was then handed over to the president for the business.Mrs. L. Hodgson gave a fine report on Christian Steward ship and outlined thg, years work as planned by the "“Warp and means” committee. We are look ing forward to the money rais ing activities planned for the years work.
