Both Exeter and Dashwood have lost four tilts this season in league competition while Exe ter has tied one, giving the Dashwood girls a slight edge. Lucan follows closely in third spot having lost five games. Exeter had very little trouble With the Irish lassies scoring in every frame of the six and a played. Foul Tip The average baseball fan can not tell you what a foul tip is. The .rules define a foul tip as: “A ball batted by the batsman while standing within the lines of his position, th'at goes sharp and ’direct from the bat to the catcher’s hands, and is legally caught.’’ NOTE: If not caught it is simply a foul ball. Fielder Purposely Dropping Fly This rule was written to pro tect the base runners , from a fielder purposely dropping a fly ball to make a double play: “ If before two are out, while first or first and second, or first second and third bases are occupied, any .player,’ in the judgment of the umpire, fly ball or umpire the ball has been caught? This way it appears now the Clinton Colts are a sure in for top position in the Huron-Perth Intermediate Baseball standing, With two games left to play they have a four-point edge on the second place Luean Irish, Mitchell led the league moist of the season but fell down in the finishing drive. Of the three higher category “B” teams, Centralia, is tops and is in third position, Goderich is in fifth spot while Clinton Radar is on. the bottom. These three, along with St, Marys, who drew a bye, will playoff in a separate series, with Centralia the favor ite at present. In the “C” group, the first and fourth, second and fifth, and third and sixth will meet in the semi-finals, The . way the clubs stand now it means that either Exeter or Dashwood, de pending on who wins the first playoff berth, will meet either Mitchell oi’ Hensall. Mitchell is currently third in the “C” group standing but Hensall has three games to play this, week and is only two points behind Mitchell, What About It? We have heard several queries about Exeter’s newly formed re creational council. Several months ago this was a keen subject around town but of late it seems to be a dead issue. However, we hope this isn't the case. The sport situation in Exeter de finitely needs a shot in the arm. This community is being badly overshadowed by our neighbour ing rivals who are much smaller in population than we are. Lose In Zurich The kids played in Zurich last week and were handed a trim ming by the home club to the tune of 13-3. From all reports Zurich’s youthful Seibert did a neat job of hurling the winning performance. Exeter Girls Doing Well At least one local ball club is doing well and that is the girls’ club, entered in the district soft- ball. At present the lassies are in a three-way .fight for top position with Dashwood and Lucan. Dashwood at present has a slight edge, with Exeter’ a nose ahead of Lucan. Oh, To Be A Manager! It’s usually tough enough to be the manager of a winning team but when a club is on the losing end, the chap at the helm has plenty of headaches. Such is the case of manager Joe Creech of the local Intermediates. In the seventeen games played this season the locals have managed to tuck away only four of them. With very few reserves it’s a tough job juggling around the lineup in an effort to get a win ning combination., Add to this the fact that some of the lads are gamely carrying on despite leg injuries, you’ve got more than just a small problem. .Tom Sempk I J/GNS Trucks, Windows, Store Front Signs, Gold Leaf Lettering PHONE 155.M EXRTER Come and See The Lowest Priced English Car , On The Canadian Market the Ford Anglia Only $1,425 Have A Demonstration Ride Now Is the Time I TO FILL YOUR COAL BIN WHILE WE HAVE FUEL IN STOCK Don’t wait until you need it.
