Lightning Kills
Boy At Lake
A sharp bolt of lightning
struck through heavy rainfall
and dark clouds late Saturday
to claim the life of a seven-year-
old Komoka boy as he ran along
the beach at Ipperwash.
The boy was Robert Lattimore,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence
Lattimore. The electric shock
killed the boy as he was run
ning toward a cottage
family was spending
The parents were
feet away and saw
which blinded them
ily, but because the
reduced visibility they did not
know the boy had been hit.
Caught in a heavy downpour the
group was hurrying for shelter.
Three other people in a cott
age nearby were affected by the
bolt, which seemed to splatter
against their cottage. They had
seen the boy running in front of
the cottage just before the light
ning struck and when they could
see they saw him lying on the
beach and ran to him.
The lightning inflicted severe
bead injuries and burns on other
parts of the body, particularly
on the lower abdomen where a
can of pork and beans which
the boy was carrying had been
pressed close to his body. Death
was instantaneous.
