Always eager to learn, Murray attended the Ontario atheletic training 'camp .in 1948. He is described by mis teach ers as an average student and is as active in the social life of his community as he is on the playing field, being a member of the Glee Club, vice-president of the Atheletic Society, a member ■of the Y. P. IT. and active on all school dance committees. A grade, 13 student, Murray feels that*** vocational guidance should be stressed more as a subject so that students can de cide early what they feel they want to do later on. He thinks that Western Ontario schools could be improved if every school had .a standard size fully equipped gym. As to w h y school boards should take an interest .in school athletics, Murray says that if they did, no school team would go into a game inadequately equipped. Further, , he thinks their interest would have a de cided effect on the interest of all the people in the school area. He calls basketball his favor ite sport because “it teaches the advantages of team play.” Murray is the son of C. May, of R. R. 1, Centralia. The return game with Am herstburg was plqygd Saturday night in Exeter. We have every reason to say* our girls played their , best game of the season. D V e i’ y tb Q d y .worked hard, the the guards in passing and the forwards making every oppor tunity to shoot really count. They w ere qble to pile ,up a score of 24 against an opposing 17. This was the first time the girls defeated the Amherst team and that in itself was something to shout about. However, to get into the finals they needed to win by seventeen points. Wednesday the girls will play at .Stratford in a game scheduled for 4:00 o’clock. ill $ # The boy’s game .rather dis appointed us, since it was not played with the usual enthus iasm that typifies our boys. Yet it was .very close all the way and best of all had a happy end ing. When they played at Am herstburg they made for them selves a 16 point lead, which was a boon to Saturday’s score of 31-3'4. O n Saturday, March 26, they will be playing in the WOSSA finals. The game is sure ‘ we ~‘ us to 'be good, and they will make of them. * * The At-Home from every standpoint. Tradition al St. Patrick’s Day decorations turned our gym into a gay and beautiful ball-room. Janet Kestle and Dennis Flear reigned .as king and queen of the ball, They wer©. chosen for their charm and sweetness during the .evening. Janet was given pearls by which she will re member the evening and Dennis was given gold cuff links. So many things contributed to the evening’s enjoyment, the music and the shamrock decorations helped tremendously, but most of all it was the fun of having so many of the with us, * * Last Friday finals for the WOSSA speaking contest were held at th© Uni versity. We had a representative in the senior girls grouping, Velma Ferguson, who placed second with her speech on “Leisure Time”. Her impromptu was ’Student Farmwork’. Sever al other students went to hear the speakers with Miss Seigner. This ends the oratorical com petitions for this year and we are glad to have one of our students do so creditably. Velma placed test at contest in the first in the district con- Palmerston, the regional at Hanover and second WOSSA finals. •••■■■■ • • ■1 9Mother (at tea): your hands are dirty.
