Mrs. Uhler’s Grade 1 class at
North Woods Elementary School
have put some long, hard thought
into how they would get to the North
Pole if they had to.
“I would drive to the ocean and
then get a boat, but then I would
walk and swim most of the way
because I don’t know how to steer a
boat. Then I would ask Santa for a
special boat to take me home that
steers itself.”
Hudson M. from Listowel.
“I would call Santa and ask him to
send his sleigh with just Rudolph,
since I’m smaller than Santa. Then I
would have Rudolph take me to the
North Pole and have him bring me
back home too.”
Blake A. from Brussels.
“I would drive an airplane that I
would get from the airport to the
North Pole. I don’t know how to
drive a plane, but I’ve been in one
before. If I couldn’t drive it, my dad
would, because he can do
everything.”
Austin L. from Ethel.
“I would order a plane from
Brussels then I would get my dad to
drive it or something. I would call
Santa and ask him to put presents out
near his house so we would know
where to land when we get to the
North Pole.”
Caitlyn J. from Brussels.
“I would take a bus that’s special
because it can go up on top of the
water like a boat and ride it all the
way to the North Pole without
having to get cold or wet.”
McKenna C. from Ethel.
“I would use an airplane from the
place that they keep airplanes to get
to the North Pole. I would just press
some buttons and drive. I think that’s
how airplanes work. I’m not sure, I
haven’t been on one before because
I’m scared of heights.
Amelia M. from Brussels.
“To get to the North Pole I would
take Santa’s sleigh by staying up late
on Christmas Eve to ask Santa if I
could borrow it. I would bring it
back after though, so Santa could
use it to finish giving out Christmas
presents.”
Alyssa M. from Brussels.
“I would get Rudolph from Santa
and a smaller sleigh and he would
take me to the North Pole. When I
got there I would go see Santa and
give Rudolph back and Santa could
give me a ride home and lots of
presents too!”
Stein B. from Atwood.
“I would take a jet from the
airplane port if I needed to get to the
North Pole. I would get the person
who works there to fly it and I would
jump out and use the airbags you put
on your back to land at the North
Pole. They sort of look like
parachutes.”
Lorenzo H. from Brussels.
“I would take an airplane to the
North Pole, but I don’t know anyone
who knows how to fly it so I would
have to learn how to fly first and
then go there and back on the
airplane.”
Ariana C. from Brussels.
“I don’t really know how to get to
the North Pole, but I think I would
take a sled with dogs, not reindeer,
since they know how to swim and
there is water up there.”
Sunny B. from Brussels.
“I’d take a snowmobile if I had to
get to the North Pole. They can go
over water if it’s frozen. My dad
would come with me and drive it
because he knows how. If there
wasn’t snow, I wouldn’t be able togo I don’t think.”Matthew Y. from Brussels.
“I would take the Polar Express to
get to the North Pole. It’s a train that
takes you right there. My Mom says
there is one in North Bay and that I
could get on the train there.”
James A. from Molesworth.
“I would take a car to get to the
North Pole and my dad would drive
I think. Then he would drive a boat
and we would drive the rest of theway in the boat. Then we couldcome back the same way.”
Nick A. from Brussels.
“I would walk and swim until I got
there.”
Tyler V. from Brussels.
“I would get there in a snow sleigh
that would be pulled by dogs
because they can walk a long way
before they get tired.
Taylor R. from Brussels.

Run, run Rudolph
Magical reindeer played a strong role in the ideas that students from North Woods Elementary
School’s Grade 1 class, taught by Mrs. Uhler, came up with when The Citizen asked them how
they would get to the North Pole if they had to. (Denny Scott photo)
