THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2012.Brussels Lions welcome five new members The Brussels Lions welcomed five new members into their club on Dec. 10 during their annual Christmas party. Cora Alcock, Jean Davidson, Julie Hamilton, Kathy Nichol and her husband Paul Nichol were inducted into the world’s largest service organization by Lion Zone Chairman Bruce Bettles of Dublin. “We are absolutely thrilled to have these individuals in our club. What makes this extra special is that four of the new members are female. Brussels has remained one of the very few clubs in the district without female members,” according to club President, Paul Mutter. Ladies make up a significant percentage of membership in district A9 which is made up of 47 clubs in an area stretching from Goderich to Grand Valley to Lion’s Head. Many senior cabinet positions in thedistrict are currently held by womenand on more than one occasion in the past, women have held the most senior position of District Governor. Lions Clubs are certainly not a “men’s club” anymore. The Brussels Lions Club has had many expressions of interest from women to join in the past, but none have wanted to be the only female member. Now that there are four, members hope that others will follow. Mutter continued on to say that “the Nichols are the only husband and wife members in the club at this time, again, something that is quite common in other communities. Paul and Kathy are technically not our first husband and wife team. Tamara THE EDITOR, There will be two energetic teenagers out in Brussels on Saturday, Jan. 5 from 9 a.m. until approximately noon. They would like to collect any and all empty liquor and beer containers. Please have these ready at the end of your driveways.
