(Jim Brown photo) Children show adults how to celebrate Christmas The countdown is on. For the wee ones, the “sleeps” until Christmas are being noted daily, and that’s just part of their joy for Christmas. Kids know how to celebrate the good things. They do it so well. As adults we really need to observe and then review how we handle this special season. The “Grinch” slips in easily when we let the hassles of this time take over the precious moments that are available to us. if it will matter in six months then it’s okay to fuss about it, if not perhaps it’s time to let it go. The children in church services and concerts for another year have given us memories of the hope, peace, joy and love of this Christmas time. The story that was told over 2,000 years ago still rings true. Thedetails change every year in thetelling but the bottom line is themiracle of birth and the love that comes with it. Children tell it best as they become shepherds or one of the angels, and with great enthusiasm tell the old story. A donkey here, a cow there, a barn, a house, a cave, a wise guy or girl, an astrologer or king – each year a different twist but the miracle and love always is there with the story. Perhaps the reason it affects most folks so profoundly is that it gets personal. We are all touched by the love and joy that comes with the birth of a baby and so we can relate to this time to celebrate Christ’s birth. The food banks of Huron County were front and centre last weekend as people gathered in Blyth Memorial Hall. Jimmy Keys, from Florida with a Harriston wife, offered his British humour and amazing keyboard skill to an appreciative audience. His mimicry of famous musicians was uncanny. A facial contortion, a wig and a jacket had Elton John in concert. A joke, a laugh and a new wig brought DeanMartin to life. Rod Stewart, KennyRogers, AC/DC and Ray Charles aswell as many, many others were offered with great skill. It was a great evening for many laughs. His use of local places and names made the jokes even better. Thanks to Bob Rowe and GerryWheeler for organizing this time offun to benefit the 10 food banks wehave in Huron County. Enjoy this Christmas time with those you love and may you make new great memories as you experience the wonder and awe of the last weeks of 2012. From the Graber and Watsonfamily, may you find hope in theworld, joy in your life and peace in your heart. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Betty G.W.
