The Citizen, 2012-12-13, Page 27They often consider themselves‘just an average person’. But thosearound them know better.
They’re people who are truly
interested in their community and
the agriculture industry they’re
involved in. They’ve proven that
interest over and over again in a
series of actions that go beyond just
mouthing the words. And they’re
the kind of people the CKNX Radio
Farm Advisory Board (FAB) wants
to honour.
The Board is once again offering
its annual FAB Award to recognize
those people in Midwestern Ontariowho have created a body ofcontributions to the well-being of
agriculture and their rural
community.
This will be the 15th year for the
Award. Last year’s winner was
Marilyn Broadfoot from Huron
County. She was nominated by the
Huron County Federation of
Agriculture whose directors
described her as a woman who cares
very deeply for the land and people
of rural Ontario. They also used the
terms “tireless” and “tenacious”.
And in nominating her they cited herinvolvement with the Huron-PerthAg-Water Festival, the promotion of
agricultural education for students
and consumers and her work with
the Tipperary farmers in their
battle with a natural gas storage
company.
If you know someone like this –
and most of us do – application
forms and additional information are
available from the Farm Advisory
Board section on the AM 920
website [www.am920.ca] or the
Blackburn Agri-media site
[www.agri-media.ca] or fromCKNX Radio. Call 519-357-1310,extension 3243 or e-mail your
request to farm@cknxradio.com
The nomination deadline is Feb. 28,
2013.
The FAB Award is one of two
annual awards the CKNX Radio
Farm Advisory Board administers.
The other is the FAB Bursary – a
$1,000 bursary awarded to a
Midwestern Ontario student enteringhis or her second year of anagriculture-related post-secondary
education program.
The CKNX Radio Farm Advisory
Board is a group of farm and agri-
business people from across
Midwestern Ontario who help the
radio station maintain and build
upon its strong agricultural
information programming.

This week students had a very
special event. They had a Christmas
Bureau drive. The students brought
in 382 non-perishable food items for
the food drive. Thank you very much
to everyone who donated.
The school council also organized
Christmas carolling on Dec. 11.
Anyone who came was able to help
themselves to nice warm hot
chocolate or apple cider.
The Hullett Central Public School
student council executive is
also selling candy canes on
Dec. 17, 18 and 19. They are only
25 cents a piece for a large candy
cane.
As of Monday, Mrs. DeBoer was
temporarily moved to the Learning
Resource Centre. Hullett Central
will miss you, but congratulations.
Filling in for Mrs. DeBoer is Ms
MacLay.

Hello everyone, Ben here with
some news. In the Grade 3/4 class
they are starting a new unit in math:
patterning. They are also
studying mushrooms and how they
grow. That sure sounds pretty fun to
me.
The Grade 5/6 class has been
challenged by their teacher to be
more active by increasing their
participation in the running warm-up
activity (the beep test) each gym
class. Have a happy holiday
everyone and I hope to write for you
soon.

Falconer said that Hill has been
instrumental in highlighting the
problem areas with the building and
what the priorities should be as
council moves forward. Council
agreed that Hill has been helpful
since he was hired earlier this year.
“Damn right he was a good hire,”
said Councillor Bill Siemon.
