Wind turbines and the K2 Wind
Power Project continue to be hot
topics at Ashfield-Colborne-
Wawanosh (ACW) Township
council despite only three
councillors being able to deal with
the issue.
Councillors Barry Millian, Roger
Watt and Doug Miller are the only
members of council who can,
due to other councillors having
conflicts of interest, deal with the
issue.
The three discussed the future of
energy generation in Canada during
ACW’s Nov. 20 meeting as,
currently, surplus energy is
being sold off at less than cost
and, in a letter they received
from K2, the company responsible
for the K2 project, nuclear
energy was being blamed for the
situation.
Watt said he was unhappy with the
response and with the push on green
energy while the government is still
selling energy.
Millian said he was unhappy
with the letter for “basically
throwing the blame” at nuclear
energy.
“I wish [a representative from the
company] were here,” he said. “I
have a real problem with this.
Surplus power is being sold in the
winter when these turbines are
running more often.”
Millian apologized to the
assembled residents as he said, at the
previous council meeting, he would
have responses back to written
questions resulting from a public
meeting regarding the K2 wind
turbine project. Unfortunately, he
said he hadn’t found the time to sit
down and discuss the issue with
staff.
“We will get it done and we will
get back to you,” he said. “We’ll
hopefully respond in the next two
weeks.”

After over 22 years, Mike
Nowosad is retiring from the helm of
4-H Canada.
A long-time dedicated employee,
working closely with both the
national 4-H Council Board of
Directors and the 4-H Foundation
Trustees, Nowosad played a key role
in shaping the national program over
his time with the organization. Under
his tenure the long term ‘Measures
of Success’ report measuring the
impact and value of 4-H across
Canada was commissioned and
repeated; a national 4-H resource
development and sharing network
was implemented; and risk
management processes and
initiatives were put in place to ensure
the organization was meeting the
needs of its clients and members.
“Mike Nowosad made a major
contribution to 4-H in Canada,” says
Rob Black, President of the
Canadian 4-H Council. “In recent
years he was instrumental in moving
the organization to a governance
model of leadership and undertaking
a collaborative initiative nationally
to define what our organization will
stand for over the next 100 years.”
Establishing and cultivating a
network of contacts and
collaborative working relationships
with the agricultural industry,
government and stakeholders across
Canada and beyond, Black goes on
to say that “Mike has been a friend of
everyone directly and indirectly
involved with 4-H for many years”.
In 2013, 4-H will celebrate its
100th anniversary in Canada. “4-H
has a long-standing tradition of
encouraging youth leadership,
raising awareness of agriculture and
strengthening communities,” says
Black. “As we begin our second
century of youth leadership, we’ll be
seeking a leader that can build upon
this strong foundation.”
The Canadian 4-H Council will
conduct a nationwide search to find
the CEO to lead the national
organization. The Council hopes to
have the new CEO in place
sometime in the New Year.
