wife Alicia have welcomed a
beautiful baby girl to their
households. The precious little girl,
named Brea, arrived on her Grandpa
Rick’s birthday. We are thrilled to be
first-time grandparents and to spoil
the newest McDonald.
Christmas plans, Christmas
shopping, Christmas parties,
Christmas carols, Christmas baking,
Christmas decorating, Christmas
meals and Christmas services are
upon us. The big event is only two
weeks away. A busy time of year and
we hope everyone is getting ready.

’Tis the Christmas season and
many families gather beforehand to
celebrate. The Glanville family
gathered at the Kinburn Hall a week
ago. There were around 50 members
of the family and it was Lloyd and
Mabel Glanville’s turn to host.
The Kinburn Hall was the venue
for the McClure family Christmas.
There were over 50 members of the
family gather to enjoy the catered
meal provided by the Walton Hall
Board. Host for the McClures wasEd McClure. Helping the WaltonHall cater for the McClure familyChristmas were Jo-Ann McDonald,Judy Lee and Barb Durrell.
The Walton Hall was the place for
the Alton family Christmas on the
weekend. Members gathered for a
day of fun, food and visiting. The
hosts were the Thompson family
of Walton, Charlene, Jason and
Terry.
The deer hunt this past week was
very successful for some groups
early and not so great for others. I
heard it said that the deer were hard
to find. The Fritz gang had pretty
good luck getting at least a dozen by
Thursday night but the Dalton gang
were not so lucky and only had a
few by that time. The momentum
changed on Friday for the Dalton
gang and a dozen more deer were
shot by them. There are less deer
around our area now, but it is still
wise to keep alert when driving at
dawn and dusk or anytime really.
The Duff’s United Church UCW
Christmas meeting enjoyed a
delicious meal, entertainment and
singing of the traditional Christmas
carols. The basement was decorated
by the four ladies in charge of the
monthly meeting, Audrey Hackwell,
Patty Banks, Judy Lee and Jo-Ann
McDonald. The evening was
enjoyed by 44 ladies. The evening
began with Patty Banks welcoming
everyone. Jo-Ann McDonald then
presented three Christmas
appetizers, in the theme of red, white
and green. Rev. Peter said grace
prior to the evening meal. The
traditional turkey dinner was catered
by High Creek Farms Catering(Theresa DeJong) and was enjoyedby all. The program presentedfollowing dinner, included thesinging of Christmas carols, comical
readings, a song by special guest
Mimi aka Anne Bosman and some
Christmas jokes. The ladies report a
lovely evening.

Former Seaforth Public School
property agreement voided
A development agreement that has
been one of the more contentious
points with Huron East Council over
the last three years was voided by
council at its Dec. 4 meeting.
After a closed-to-the-public
session that night, council passed a
motion that the municipality’s
solicitor Greg Stewart will notify
Aljack Holdings that the agreement
had been voided by council. The
reason the agreement is being
voided, according the motion passed
by council, is that the developer did
not meet the requirements of the
development agreement entered into
on Jan. 6, 2009.
That agreement would have
provided for the residential
development of the former Seaforth
Public School property. The
development of the school property
has proven controversial at several
council meetings as several abutting
landowners had challenged the
redevelopment plans before the
Ontario Municipal Board
In recent months, several
Councillors had raised concerns
about the inactivity with the
development. In an interview after
the meeting, CAO Brad Knight
indicated that several months ago
council had sought a legal opinion
on the agreement and had forwarded
a letter to the developer inquiring of
the status of the development.
The municipality had not been
contacted by the developer prior to
Knight presenting his report going
to the closed session of council
Knight said, noting that the last
record of any activity was a letter
from the municipality’s engineer to
the developer’s engineer in
November, 2010.
Knight explained that provisions
in the development agreement gave
the municipality the option to void
the agreement if the development
did not proceed within two years
from the date of signing the
agreement.
The original development
agreement made in 2009 included a
payment of $125,000 from council
to the developer to help with the
construction of surrounding streets.
Knight said that with the agreement
voided, the money will not be paid
out, since it had never actually left
municipal accounts.
