After opening the week on Dec. 3 with a 3-1 decision over Minto, the Blyth Brussels Atoms played Plattsville to a 2-2 draw and then fell 6-1 to Six Nations. Jacob Condy scored two goals for Blyth Brussels in their win over Minto. Tyler Drennan chipped in with one goal. Alex Coultes picked up a pair of assists. Owen Troyer scored for Minto. Condy had one goal and an assist in the team’s draw with Plattsville. Drennan had one goal. Notching one assist each were Josh Nixon and Ryan McMichael. Ian Glendinning and Tanner Dick replied for Plattsville. Coultes was the long goal getter for Blyth Brussels in their loss to Six Nations. Jason Wilts was credited with the assist. Theo Hill collected a goal and two assists for Six Nations. Thunder Hill and Steve Laforme each had a goal and an assist. Single goals were tallied by Tayton Skye, Kevin Hill and Darrian White. Blyth Brussels coach Matt Drennan said he was disappointed that the team was unable to advance to the playoff round. However, he said the Six Nations was a very strong team. “They are a good team,” he said. “They are very offensive.” The coach said Blyth Brussels played with Six Nations for half the game. According to Drennan, the team played three strong games in the tournament. “We played excellent hockey,” he said. “They played with their hearts. We are proud of the way they played.” The B championship was claimedby Twin Centre as they scored a 2-1decision over Mount Forest. Six Nations won the C championship by virtue of a 5-1 decision over Drayton. Blake Bender and Daniel Rudy were the goal getters for Twin Centre in the B championship final. Michael Rice scored for Mount Forest. In the B division semi-finals, Twin Centre got past Mitchell 1-0 in double overtime and Mount Forest blanked Listowel 6-0. Daniel Rudy was the lone goal getter in the game won by Twin Centre. Evan Dewar had three goals and an assist as Mount Forest shut out Listowel. Ashton Hall tallied goals and Luke Eurig had a goal and three assists. In the B division consolation final, Mitchell scored a 5-2 decision over Listowel. Carter Schoonderwoerd had two goals for Mitchell with Connor Weir getting a goal and two assists and Karen Eisler getting one goal and one helper. Evan Morrison contributed one goal to the win. Sam Town and Keegan Long replied for Listowel. Darrian White scored three times to lead Six Nations to a 5-1 decision over Drayton in the C championship. Theo Hill scored twice and Steve Laforme collected a pair of assists. Caleb Cribbin was the long goal getter for Drayton. In the C division semi-finals, Six Nations got past Flesherton 6-0 and Drayton defeated TCDMHA 3-1. Theo Hill scored three goals to lead Six Nations over Flesherton. Steve Laforme had two goals and two assists while Kevin Hill chipped in with one goal. Brett Armstrong scored two goals for Drayton in their victory over TCDMHA. Caleb Cribbin had one goal. Cody Burnett had two assists. In the consolation final, TDCMHA edged past Flesherton 4-3. Wyatt Golem and AustinMcComb had two goals apiece for TDCMHA and Calvin Stewart had two assists. Matt Grootendorst scored two goals for Flesherton and Travis Verbeek had a goal and an assist. Twin Centre will compete in the B division over the International Silver Stick tournament to be played in Forest next month. Six Nations will compete in the C division. Results of the games played opening day, Dec. 2 were Listowel 2, BCH 1; Walkerton 0, Tavistock, 2; Ayr 4, Hanover 3; South Huron 1, Mitchell 4; Mount Forest 1, Twin Centre 1; Six Nations 6, Plattsville 1 and Kincardine 2, Goderich 2. The scores of games played Dec. 3 were Blyth Brussels 3, Minto 1; Shallow Lake 2, Drayton 4 and Teeswater 1, Arthur 7. Games played Dec. 4, had Wingham 5, Ripley 2; Flesherton 1, TCDMHA 0; and BCH 5, Hanover 2. The results for games played Dec. 5 were South Huron 4, Walkerton 4;Mitchell 2, Tavistock 0 and Listowel3, Ayr 1. The scores for games played Dec. 6 were Kincardine 0, Mount Forest 3; Twin Centre 11, Goderich 2 and TCDMHA 5, Teeswater 1. Results of games played Friday were Ripley 3, Drayton 5 and Wingham 1, Shallow Lake 0. Results of games played Saturday at the North Huron Wescast Community Complex were Hanover 1, Listowel 2; Arthur 0, Flesherton 3; Minto 0, Six Nations 6; Goderich 2, Mount Forest 2; Wingham 1, Drayton 3; Flesherton 6, Teeswater 0 and Plattsville 3, Minto 2. The results of Saturday games played at the Blyth and District Community Centre were Mitchell 2, Walkerton 0; Blyth Brussels 2, Plattsville 2; Ayr 4, BCH 3; Tavistock 1, South Huron 4; Twin Centre 5, Kincardine 2; Shallow Lake 1, Ripley 0; TCDMHA 8, Arthur 5 and Six Nations 6, Blyth Brussels 1.By Jim Brown The Citizen Defeated The Blyth Brussels Atom Rep team was handed a setback in their final game of the Silver Stick tournament held in Blyth and Wingham over the weekend when Six Nations defeated them 6-1, ending Blyth Brussels tournament run. (Jim Brown photo) The Wingham Ironmen just had one game on the weekend in the Western Junior C Hockey League, but they scored enough goals for three games. Playing at the P and H Centre in Hanover, the Ironmen outlasted the Barons 12-11. Aaron Armstrong paced the office with two goals and four assists. Derek Elliott had two goals and a pair of assists with Brayden Pellett and Drew Gross each netting a pair of goals. Brett Brophy, Dylan Williams and Justin Jacklin each collected a goal and an assist with Travis Donaldson chipping in with a single marker. Drew Shantz picked up three assists with Greg Scott earning a pair of helpers. Justin Graham had three goals and three assists for Hanover. Wingham held a 5-3 advantage after the opening 20 minutes and took an 8-7 lead into the final period. The Ironmen were outshot in the game 39-38 and were 1-6 on the power play. The Ironmen are on the road for a pair of games this weekend when they play the Hawks. On Friday, travel to Walkerton for an 8:30 p.m. contest and then on Saturday they are in Mitchell for a 7:15 p.m. game. By Jim Brown The Citizen Ironmen top Hanover 12-11 On Saturday, the Blyth Brussels Novice Rep team visited Clinton to take on the undefeated BCH Ice Dogs and handed the team its first loss. Right from puck drop the game was filled with end-to-end action. Blyth Brussels struck first which proved to be a real confidence booster. Penalty trouble for the Byth Brussels team resulted in them playing two men short for some time, however, they killed the penalties off with much excitement for the fans. A late goal gave Blyth Brussels a 4-3 victory over the previously undefeated BCH team. The Blyth Brussels Novice Rep team also travelled to Seaforth to battle the Stars on Dec. 7 who were looking for revenge as they have come up short twice against the tough Blyth Brussels team. Despite having players sidelined by illness, Blyth Brussels came out and skated to a 6-4 victory. Novice topples BCH The Saugeen Maitland Midget AA Lightning travelled to Brantford to play the Ice-Cats in the newly- renovated Wayne Gretzky recreation complex on Saturday and came away with another shutout win. Tori Terpstra opened the scoring with a wrist shot to the top corner off a nice feed from linemates Kelly Gribbons and Harley Westman. Lexi Smith then stuffed one in the net from her knees after being hacked to the ice by an Ice-Cat defender while on a partial break-away. Cassidy Colhoun made a long pass out of the defensive zone to spring Smith. Maddie Duncan also earned an assist on the Smith’s goal. Dawn Pletsch rounded out the scoring, beating the Brantford goalie 5-hole after passes from Sarah Biesenthal and Gribbons. Morgan Baker was sharp when she needed to be, stopping all Brantford shots for the shutout in net. Next home game is Saturday at 2 p.m. against the London Devilettes at the Teeswater arena.
