PAGE 8. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2012.Sports PeeWee team ousted by Petrolia in tournament final Blyth Brussels PeeWee AE team travelled to Stephen Township arena on Friday to start their journey in the South Huron Silver Stick Tournament. The first game put them up against their rivals from BCH. Bailey Bos scored late in the first and once more early in the second. BCH came back with two before the period was out heading to the third locked at two. Both teams traded chances throughout the third and with 25 seconds left, Bos found Tanner Boven out front giving them a 3-2 win for game one. Friday evening the team met the Ilderton Jets. The Jets scored first followed by one from Bos before the period ended. That would do it for the scoring as both goalies closed the wickets and the teams settled for a 1-1 tie. The third game of the round robin play placed the team against the Petrolia Oilers. Jacob Roth set up Bos for the first goal of the game with Petrolia answering right back to end the first in a tie. As both teams swapped chances and hits, neither goalie could be beat through the second. Bos came out quick in the third on a feed from Mitch McNichol but Petrolia answered right back to keep the game tied. Then on a long shot from the blue line, Jarron Thompson had no chance as the puck changed direction on him twice on the way to the net giving Petrolia their first lead of the game with half of the period left to go. As hard as the team tried, they couldn’t even things up before the buzzer, settling for a 3-2 loss. However, with their 1-1-1 record through round robin play, the team managed 15 points giving them second place and delivered them into the elimination round. Sunday morning put the team against the first place Lucan Irish from the other pool. Bailey Bos wasted no time getting things started scoring 10 seconds in catching Lucan off guard for the 1-0 lead. Blyth Brussels caught Lucan sleeping again at the start of the second as Joseph Pizzati walked in and made it 2-0. Lucan added one before the end of the second but that would be all they could manage. Late in the third Nolan Johnston put the icing on the cake for the 3-1 win on a pass from Carson Richmond and a trip to the finals. The final gave Blyth Brussels a second chance against Petrolia. However, things didn’t work out as hoped. When the game started it turned out the tank was on empty finishing the first two periods down 2-0. After the intermission Petrolia caught Blyth Brussels looking and adding two quick ones going up 4-0. Bos then got things going with a pass from Pizzati and then adding another cutting the lead in half. Unfortunately that was all they could muster in this game as before it was over Petrolia added three more taking the final game by a score of 7-2. All in all it was a great weekend for the Blyth Brussels PeeWee AE team for all of their hard work. It was the best they have played all season.
