Christmas bureau shows true reasons for celebrating
Christmas is in the air. As the days
tick by toward the 12 days of
Christmas the mood gets
increasingly electric. It’s one of
those things that seems to sneak up
on you. An extra smile is given,
generosity is observed and the
general welfare of others is noted.Oh if we could spread this evenlyover our twelve months…One of the traditions in Huron
County is the Christmas Bureau. It
has been going for years organized
by a team of volunteers who give
their time to share the joy and love of
the season. Churches in central areas
of the county play host, where others
drop off their donations. These gifts
are a central part of Christmas for
many, both in the giving and
receiving. When you think of why
we celebrate Christmas, the Huron
County Christmas Bureau nails it –
true giving, anonymously lovingly
and freely. Christmas spirit flowing
toward others. So many churches in
our area over the past two weekshave held services and gatheredgifts, spreading the joy and love. The Watsons were celebrating on
Sunday. Mother Alma was the
reason for her offspring to gather.
Mary and Verne entertained John
and Wendy and Ralph and I
complete with cake and several
candles. The added bonus was the
aunts and uncles finally got to meet
Lucas. Lucas Clarkson started life in
Vietnam and joined his new family,
Maya, Brent and Janis this summer
in Kitchener. Grandmas Trish and
Mary and Grandpas Ron and Vern
have done a fine job of showing this
little dark eyed, handsome boy how
love is shared.
The annual community choralconcert once again shared themusical talents of our churches. Each choir offered their music of the
season, a band with various
instruments played several times and
finally the combined choir sent
everyone home in the spirit of the
season. An added gift for many wasseeing Joyce and Don Jacklin in thecongregation soaking in the spirit.Savour this special time of year
and keep it simple so that Christmas
remains the event it was meant to be.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

Branch over the Christmas season
and enjoy some social time and
renew your membership. New
members are always welcome at the
Branch. Please pick up an
application form and join the Legion
today.

Moncrieff sign
to be put up
Public Works Director Barry
Mills informed Huron East Council
at their Dec. 4 meeting that the
long-awaited sign for the hamlet of
Moncrieff would be placed in the
community soon.
The issue has been discussed for
months, when it was discovered that
the sign had indeed been purchased,
but was sitting in storage for years
before it was decided that it would
be erected.
Mills told councillors that the
sign would be placed near the
hamlet’s boundary line, on the
property by the Moncrieff Hall,
which has always been seen as the
