Pastor sends Christmas wishes
By Femke BackxOn Saturday, Dec. 1 the ChristmasCraftswomen had their last meeting.First, president Jolande Oudshoorn
opened the 4-H meeting with the 4-
H pledge. Then the roll call was read
and answered. The roll call was:
what are your plans for the holidays.
Most people just were staying at
home.
Then Monique Baan (leader)
talked about the Achievement night.
Every member will make about threeor four arrangements for theresidents in Huronlea. Next,Monique split the group into two.
One group made gift tags with
Monique and the other group started
their arrangements in a mug with
Ingrid Backx (leader). We were
reminded to use odd numbers with
both the cards and arrangements. On
the right side of table we made gift
tags by gluing dried leaves on small
pieces of white card board. The gifttags are for the mugs that we will bemaking the arrangements in forHuronlea.
On the other side of the table they
were making floral Christmas
arrangements, using cedar, pine or
spruce as a base. Everyone had
brought different items to decorate
their arrangements, some of the
items were: limes, candles,
Christmas balls, pine cones and lots
more. After a little while the groupsswitched. Everyone worked hardand came up with lots of creative
ideas. After most members were
done Monique and Ingrid reminded
everyone of the first meeting
because the oasis was dry oasis
which was the wrong kind. SoMonique asked questions, andwhoever shouted out the rightanswer first, got a piece of dry oasis.
Charlene, Jolande and Grace were
the winners. Then president Jolande
closed the meeting with the 4-H
motto.

loud, I need this planet Earth and it
needs me. And somehow God,
however, we experience that
relationship, is part of everything we
participate in this world. So this
year’s Christmas isn’t just like last
year. I am one year older. My life
has changed even if I cannot see the
change. The people around me have
helped me to change even if I
haven’t noticed how they have
helped me.
This Christmas, this year, will
never be here again. Some of the
people that are here this Christmas,
may not be here next year. Some
may not be able to travel and visit
for whatever reason. But some may
not even be on this earth next year. I
may not be able to visit or talk with
them in person or by phone or
computer or in any way. Christmas
reminds me of the importance of
reconnecting with all those people
that I know and love. Thanking,
laughing, celebrating, “saying I love
you”, reconciling with some that for
whatever reason my relationship is
strained and finally, just enjoying
time with them because I care about
them. For me , this is what
Christmas is about. A baby born a
long long time ago, reminds us that
God loves us through all of our
relationships that we need in order
to live. Christmas is about giving
and receiving love from our
relationships.
This letter to Santa that I will end
with could easily be a prayer to God.
It is called “Dear Santa”.
Dear Santa
For Christmas this year I would
most love to see,
Two plane tickets to Arizona
placed under my tree.
You see my aunt had a baby and
my Nannie’s real ill,
I haven’t the money to send both
my sister and I, unless you will.
You can send us the cash, you can
take us yourself,
We can even fly there with your
most responsible elf.
Oh please Santa, get us both there
somehow.
We could wait until later, but it’s
best to go now.
Nannie’s going through surgery,
we’re not sure if she’ll live,
And well, where this is the season
for everyone to give,
I only want to see her, yes, this is
all I ask.
Is my Christmas wish such a
difficult task?
When you get this and read it,
think it over a time or two.
I know this is a hard decision, but
I’m positive you’ve had a few.
Even if one ticket is all you can
give,
Don’t worry. I’ll send my sister
and pray that dear Nannie will live.
I’m sorry I’ve been bad, next year
I’ll try to be better.
You have a big job, so I oughta
end this letter.
Have a Merry Christmas Santa,
tell the elves and Mrs. Claus I said
hi.
Thank you for your time Sir, now I
must say goodbye.
P.S. The milk is in a glass and the
cookies on a tray.
You know where I live, so nothing
more shall I say.
So let me return to the father who
every Christmas morning read the
nativity story out of the family
Bible. Sometimes, we need to be
reminded why we are doing what we
are doing with a bit of history.
And yet, sometimes, like me, we
need to hear and see Christmas
in a new and different way. It may
be just what you need to get you in
the Christmas spirit. It worked for
me.
My family and I wish you and
your loved ones a special Advent
filled with loving relationships,
laughter, warmth and good
cheer.

• Children should never give out
personal information to strangers.
• Children should be taught to
never accept rides from strangers.
• Wherever possible young
children should walk in groups;
safety in numbers.
• Children should know their
family’s safety rules when home
alone. They shouldn’t be allowing
strangers into the home when alone.
Communication between a parent
and a child is vitally important.
Children should be instructed to
report as soon as possible any
suspicious activity and all
interactions with strangers that make
your child uncomfortable.
