Getting ready for Christmas
The annual Santa Claus Parade was held in Brussels on Saturday and it featured dozens of
floats and large groups of spectators despite the less-than-desirable weather. A full gallery of
pictures from the parade is available on The Citizen’s website at www.northhuron.on.ca (Denny

The Huron-Perth Catholic District
School Board is excited to once
again run their “Giving in the Light
of Christ” Christmas campaign. Last
year was a great success as
donations were collected for various
causes, including helping the
victims of the Goderich tornado.
Community residents, family and
friends are invited and encouraged
to join students and staff of their
local Huron Perth Catholic school in
supporting local organizations that
serve those less fortunate. Many
students are giving of their own time
and money to make the holiday
season a little brighter for those in
need.
Reasons to get involved are
plentiful and diverse. Projects
underway include toy and gift drives
for the Salvation Army, Angel Tree
and Huron County Christmas
Bureau as well as fundraising and
food collection for the St. Vincent
de Paul Society. Some schools are
also collecting donations of warm
clothes, money, food or personal
items for other worthwhile causes.
It is not uncommon for schools to
raise hundreds of dollars for certain
causes. Last year, St. Patrick’s,
Kinkora raised almost $700 for the
St. Andre Bessette Trust Fund. It is
uplifting to see the generosity of
students shine brightly during the
Advent season.
Martha Dutrizac, Director of
Education with the Huron-Perth
Catholic District School, is excited
about the opportunity to build
partnerships of giving across Huron
and Perth Counties.
“We are invited to embrace the
next four weeks as an opportunity to
help transform advent into a journey
of faith, to open our hearts and our
doors to support our communities,”
says Dutrizac. She adds that while
outreach efforts are an important
and ongoing tradition within each
Catholic school, the Board is
extending a widespread invitation
for community involvement for the
second time this year.
Building on the success of the
2011 campaign, this year’s efforts
will employ radio spots, Twitter,
Facebook and a new website –
giving.huronperthcatholic.ca with
details about individual collection
programs hosted by each school and
links to the schools where donations
can be dropped off.
