Congratulations to Chris Lee who
was honoured at the 2012 Heroes in
the Home Awards Ceremony. Chris
was awarded a Caregiver
Recognition Award for 2012 from
Huron County Community Care
Access Centre. He was recognizedfor his assistance in caregiving forfriend Robert in his final months oflife. The event was held at the Arden
Park Hotel on Nov. 22. There were
over 100 awards presented to
recipients from Huron Perth CCAC.
Other local recipients from the
Seaforth area included Betty
Beuttenmiller and Marlene
Roberton. The Brussels Assisted
Living Team received a group award
for their exceptional caring services
provided to the residents of the
Brussels area. Members of the team
include Natasha Bissett, Kim Clark,
Rosemarie Deboer, Pat Forbes,
Christine Keffer, Stephanie McEwanand Brenda Nyveld. Congrats to all.The Huron Christian School hometour was held on the weekend. They
had a great crowd of folks take
advantage of the tour and local folks
involved were from Walton and a
former Brussels woman. The home
of Gary and Rachel Damsma-
Sutcliffe of Walton was a home
featured. It was decorated by another
Waltoner, Jill Fritz, owner of
Jillian’s of Mitchell. The Damsma-
Sutcliffe home is the former George
Love Sr. home and has beautiful
woodwork throughout. The rustic
and beautiful decorations provided
by Jillian’s accented the home
beautifully. Former Walton family,
Trevor and Karen Sutcliffe, now
from Blyth, also had their home
featured and it was decorated by
Blooms and Rooms of Seaforth and
was very nicely done. The home of
Bert and Brenda Sjaarda was
beautifully decorated by the
homeowners. Brenda is the daughter
of Bob and Rene Richmond and
obviously inherited her mother’s
decorating talents. There were two
other Blyth homes. Pastor Mark and
Glenda Royall’s home was
decorated by The Gift Cupboard of
Blyth and David and Annie
Sparling’s home was decorated by
Connie Marriott, floral designer of
Stratford. The Huron Christian
School of Clinton was decorated by
NJS Design and Verbeek’s of
Clinton. They were all lovely and it
was a very nice event.
The 100th playing of the Grey Cup
was held in Toronto on Sunday. Atradition for the McDonald men formany years is to attend the game.Rick McDonald attended and met
his brother Neil from Vancouver in
Toronto. They had a few friends join
them from the area including Jim
McDonald, Brad Knight and Steve
Knight. Nephew Mike Warwick of
Calgary also attended and two of
Neil’s friends from Vancouver made
the group a total of eight. They had a
great time even though neither the
Tiger-Cats (Rick’s team) nor the
B.C.Lions (Neil’s team) were
playing. Next year maybe!
An enjoyable afternoon was spent
at the Blyth Festival on Sunday. The
Libro Financial Group presented
Christmas with Peter Irwin and the
Jailhouse Rock Band for its many
loyal customers. The theatre was full
and everyone was welcomed by
Debbie Gammie and Tim Prior of
Brussels introduced the members of
the Libro Board. A fantastic show
was provided by award winning
Elvis impersonator Peter Irwin and
the band. Peter was quite
entertaining and comical and it was a
great time. There were many local
folks from the Walton/Brussels area
attending whom I’m sure enjoyed
the show. I attended the show with
friend Judy Lee and then enjoyed
supper at the Blyth Inn.
Our condolences are expressed to
the family of the late Ken Webster. He will be missed by his childrenDarlene Fischer, Jeff and Daniel andtheir families. Ken will be
remembered by many of the
Brussels community for his many
business ventures around town. He
owned and operated the Brussels
Hotel and Webster’s Shoe Store and
J.R.’s food and gas bar during their
many years in town. They moved to
Lucknow but kept close ties to the

PEOPLE AROUNDWALTON
The arrival of winter came upon
us with quite a flurry. Saturday
morning was certainly quite snowy
and windy in our area. Around
Seaforth area was really bad with
numerous cars ending up off the
road in the ditch or spinning around
on North Line. We were headed for
London and by the time we made it
to Hensall, the roads and weather
were clear. The arrival of snow
makes it feel more like Christmas,
with only four weeks to go until the
big day. Don’t forget the Seaforth
Santa Claus parade is Friday
evening and the Brussels Santa
Claus parade is Saturday evening
this weekend.
The last field of soybeans that I
have been driving by was finally
harvested last week on Nov. 22. I
don’t know if that is the latest for
soybean harvest, but I don’t
remember as late a date.
The second deer hunt will start
next week so everyone be watchful
of deer on the run. The hunt is the
first week of December and good
luck to the hunters.
Henk and Agnes Ten Pas had an
enjoyable trip to the west to visit
with daughter Linda and her family.
They were at Hope, B.C. for a week
with Linda, Pete, Nicolas and Kirk.
They spent time just visiting and
celebrated a belated Henk’s birthday
and Christmas with a delicious
turkey dinner complete with
birthday cake. They invited friends
from Chilliwack to join them for the
celebration. They enjoyed a tour of
the Chilliwack area and watched the
bald eagles on the Fraser River
catching salmon. There were
hundreds of eagles perched in the
trees and flying. They would nose
dive to the water and come up with
a fish in their beaks and then enjoy
their dinner feasting on the salmon.
It was very interesting. Henk and
Agnes were also treated to a trip to
the IKEA store, the first time they
had been there. It was in
Abbottsford and is a really big store
and very interesting to see. They
watched Nic play hockey and the
week flew by. They returned home
via Calgary and were surprised by
the amount of snow they had.
The music lovers and followers of
YouTube hopefully will have seen
the new music video by Jason
Blaine. He released the video of his
song “On a Night Like This”. The
filming of this video was made at
two live concert events and one was
at the Parts Canada Transcan Grand
National Race at Walton in August.
It is a really great video with great
shots of racing, crowds and even the
fireworks. Check it out!
Our get-well wishes are extended
to Wallace Bell who suffered a fall
and hurt his knee. He is home and
feeling better. George Adams is
home and we hope he is coming
along. He won’t be out and about for
awhile but he is feeling better. Viola
Travis has returned from a London
hospital and we hope she is on the
mend.
Congratulations to Anna
Hamilton, owner of Anna’s Dress
Shop in Seaforth for receiving an
award at the Seaforth BIA business
reception. They held a wine and
cheese reception at the Seaforth
Golf and Country Club on Sunday
afternoon. Area businesses were
recognized and Anna received an
award for being a long-standing
business of the main street of
Seaforth. Anna started her business
in Brussels 35 years ago and moved
her business to Seaforth a few years
later. Congrats to Anna!
