In Mrs. Thorpe-Hearn’s
Kindergarten classes last week,
students were concentrating on the
shade black and secondary colour
orange. They also learned about how
oranges grow. First seeds become
trees, then they have blossoms, then
fruit, then juice.
The students also mixed primary
colours of red and yellow to create
orange. They also made sticker ABC
patterns mixing formula for orange.
Also they laced pumpkins, drank
orange juice made black plasticine
spiders and made sure each one had
eight pipe cleaner legs. This
week they continued their study
of colour and they explored
the primary colours that make
other colours: blue, yellow and
red.
In the Grade 1 class, students
celebrated Halloween by having fun
working on a variety of Halloween
activities – listening to a spooky
book at the listening centre, making
a flying bat, colouring Halloween
cards, completing addition facts to
20 with pumpkin answers, creating
patterns and listening to a
tumblebook on a smart board.
However, the really cool thing that
happened in Grade 1 was they made
applesauce with the help of Mrs.
Dale, Connor’s mom. everyone had
a chance to chop up the apples after
they were washed, then they peeled
and cored the apples. Finally they
added some brown sugar and lemon
juice and let it cook in the crockpot
for three hours. After it was done,
they added a little bit of cinnamon
and then everyone enjoyed
either one, two or three bowls
of the delicious applesauce.
What a great way to celebrate
Halloween.
It is with great excitement that we
have an opportunity to meet our
upcoming Hullett Hawk students on
Nov. 19. Those children who will be
three years of age by Dec. 31, 2012
are eligible for Junior Kindergarten
and those students who will be four
years old by Dec. 31 are eligible for
Senior Kindergarten. As we prepare
for your child’s entry, your visit with
us will include for your son/daughter
an early childhood screening, a
chance to talk to Smalltalk staff if
needed and an opportunity to
participate in some appropriate
preschool activities with the
kindergarten teachers.
If you require any further
information or know of any school-
aged children that we are not aware
of, please call the school at 519-523-
4201.

On Wednesday, Hullett Central
had its amazing pumpkin carving
contest. Everyone did an awesome
job. The pumpkins all had lots of
details. Winners were: first, the
Lyons family; second, Cal Taylor
and third, Ashley Kuntz. Everyone
did a great job and they all deserved
an aware for their effort.

Mrs. deBoer wanted everyone to
know that the yearbook is well
underway. We have a fantastic new
group of students from Grades 6-8
participating this year. This year
looks like a great new group with a
bunch of new ideas.
The Grade 7/8 class at Hullett
Central Public School welcomedauthor Melissa Strangway this past Tuesday. She taught thestudents about how to write
dialogue. She was a great guest and
we would love to welcome her
back.
Countdown! 3, 2, 1, time’s up.
Hands in your tests! The Grade 7/8
class wrote a math test on ratios,
decimals and fractions. Our teacher,
Mrs. Armstrong, said that “the
overall marks are improving every
day.” So here is a math question for
you, “A single ice-skating pass costs
$2.75. A monthly pass costs $24.
Peter estimates he will go skatingeight times this month and Justinestimates he will go skating 12 timesthis month. Should they both buy
monthly passes? Good luck.
Party rockers in the house. Grade
4-8 were invited to the school
Halloween dance. I am guessing by
the noise amount and all the dancing
I saw that everyone was having a
great time. The student council was
a great help decorating and
selling healthy food. A huge thanks
to our dance committee, Brooke and
Avery, for setting up the whole
thing.

In sports, on Monday, the swim
team practices began in preparation
for the upcoming season. On Friday,
Nov. 2 the PA day gave students
some time off of school and staff
had an opportunity to work with
local health professionals in
developing resiliency with youth.
We are getting ready for our
Remembrance Day assembly and
look forward to hosting many of our
local veterans at St. Anne’s. We are
grateful for the freedom that we
have and make a commitment to
express our gratitude in our words
and in our actions. We remember.
