A Celebration in Song

Continued from page 16someone walked up to Dave and Iwith a clipboard and said, “Sorryguys, there are no more rooms in
Stephenville.” I found out later they
had even booked hunting cabins to
accommodate people. The man with
the clipboard told us they had a room
for us at the Glen Mill Inn over in
the next town called, Corner Brook
which was an hour away. We just
smiled and told them this would befine. The security guard overheardthe conversation and told us howfortunate we were because one of
the local hotels where many of the
travellers were staying was not a
great place to stay. It was a
little rough. He said they always
run out of hot water because they
only one water heater for all the
units.
Dave and I got into the cab anddrove through the dark night toCorner Brook. The cab driver told usthat our hotel was the nicest place to
stay in the area. We turned into a
long treed lane and discovered a
large turreted grand resort hotel.
This place was nice. We checked in
and went directly to the dining room
that was set to close in half an hour.
There we had steak dinner in a grand
dining room with linen table clothsand waiters dressed in their blackand whites. Out of the 140 people,Dave and I were the only ones from
the plane staying here. The airline
paid for our rooms, the $168 cab
fare, they even paid for our steak
dinner. We felt okay about being
last.
The next morning as I boarded the
plane the two women I had been
sitting with on this trip took their
seats beside me looking very
unrested and haggard. One of them,
a big box store executive who was
struggling with obvious bed-head,
lamented the decision her company
made to save money by no longer
using their private jets. These two
ladies had stayed at ‘that’ hotel the
security guard warned us about.
There was no food there. The big
box store lady did not sleep well
because a fight had broke outside her
hotel window at 4 a.m. There was no
hot water when she got up. She
called it the hotel from Psycho.
Then they asked how my stay was. I
hesitated a bit but then I told them.
They didn’t say anything. All they
could do was gasp in disbelief and
wonder.
I tell this story because I was
reminded how the principles God
has placed in the Bible have a way ofcoming true in our life. For examplelast Sunday I mentioned Galatians6:7 where it says, “You will always
harvest what you plant.” What
farmer would ever try and argue
against this? But it is also true for
our lives as well. We can’t reap
where we haven’t been sowing.
When Dave and I choose to be last
we were not looking to be first. We
were not expecting to be first but
waiting turned out to be the best
decision we could have ever made. It
makes me want to brush up on the
biblical principles God gives us in
His Word.
