speed pursuit on Sept. 25 1983.
Crew’s death resulted in a police
force-wide change in high speed
pursuit protocol Lewis said.
He recalled when he heard about
Mounsey’s single vehicle collision
in 2006 and the sadness he felt. He
said the sadness felt by Mounsey’s
loss was felt throughout the entire
police department.
As for Pham’s 2010 murder,
Lewis said attending Pham’s funeral
was the saddest day he has had as a
member of the OPP.
Blyth’s Russ Nesbitt read
Mounsey’s biography for the dozens
of police officers gathered in
Goderich to honour their memory.
The ceremony featured an official
piping in of the OPP’s colour party,
presentation of the bridge signs, as
well as miniature, framed versions
of the signs for family members
and a social time for those
gathered.
God’s hand in everything!
(Mary Winslow)
“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground
apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all
numbered!” Matthew 10:29-30
How unspeakably precious and sweet it is when we can believe that God our Father in
Heaven is absolutely directing the most minute circumstances of our short sojourn in
this wilderness world! That nothing, however trivial, take place, whether it relates to
the body or the soul--but is under His control, in fact, is ordered by Himself!
But how hard to believe this, particularly when things look dark, and we cannot
discern the way we should take. It is, then, the province of faith to wait upon the Lord,
keeping a steadfast eye upon Him only; looking for light, help, and deliverance, not
from the creature, but from Jehovah Himself. Well may it be called precious faith!
How happy do those travel on, whose faith can discern God’s hand in everything.
But I fear the number is very small, who so live.
I cannot imagine how those who deny God’s particular providence can get
comfortably on, for they must perpetually be confronted with minute events in their
history, as mysterious and baffling to them as greater ones.

Bridging the memory
On Nov. 1 in Goderich the memories of OPP constables Dave Mounsey, Vu Pham and Bruce
Crew were honoured with a special OPP dedication ceremony at the Knights of Columbus
Hall. Three bridges were dedicated in the officers’ honour. All three are along Hwy. 21. Crew’s
bridge is in Goderich, Mounsey’s bridge is in Bayfield and Pham’s bridge is in Port Albert.
Here, the actual sign is being revealed to Mounsey’s family and friends and the dozens of
OPP officers in attendance. (Shawn Loughlin photo)

Sunday, Nov. 4 were Lori and
Connor Brooks. Ushering were
Lavern Clark, Cliff Snell, Lori
Brooks and Laurie Sparling. Connor
Brooks ran the power point and
Floyd Herman was music director.
Trish MacGregor from Seaforth
welcomed everyone to church in
Rev. Clark’s absence. She drew
everyone’s attention to the
announcements with specialmention there will be no churchservice at Blyth United and thecongregation will join in theRemembrance Day Service at the
Memorial Hall with the Legion
members at 10:45 a.m. Also the
ladies will be making the last meat
pies for the year on Nov. 14 and 21
and last day to order fruit pies for
Christmas is Dec. 3.
The call to worship was the
singing of two songs, “All Who Are
Thirsty” and “This is the Day”
followed by the prayer of approach
being said responsively with the
response in sign language. The choir
and congregation responded with the
singing of the hymn, “Over My
Head”. The scripture lesson was
from Matthew 13: 10-17. The
children were asked to come to the
front for their story time. Trish told
the story of four animals going on a
picnic. There were a turtle, a snake,a happy rabbit and an elephant. Theyall went to the mountain for a picnic. The turtle was joined by the snake, the rabbit and the elephant. They
asked turtle if he had all their
favourite snacks and turtle had
remembered. When they all got to
the top of the mountain there was a
big rock there and no place to have a
picnic. All the animals took a turn at
trying to remove the rock but with
no success. They then decided to try
all together to remove the rock and
finally together they push the rock
down the mountain. She taught the
children actions for each animal and
when she mentioned the animal in
the story the children and
congregation were to make the
sounds of that animal. The moral of
the story was that in working
together the impossible can be
achieved. The children went
downstairs for their time offellowship. The choir anthem was“Let the Whole Creation Cry.”The message to the adults was“Master Storyteller.” Trish told the
congregation she loved to tell
stories. Her dad was also a
storyteller. Often her siblings and
she would hear different things from
the stories. A storyteller can make
you think you were right there with
them. Stories connect us and help us
understand their meaning. Jesus told
many stories such as the four men
lowering their sick friend through
the roof to see Jesus. Jesus healed
him and he walked away. Through
Jesus’ stories we get to know who
He was. Jesus wants us to
understand who God is and by
