Jet rally featured
in RC magazine
The Wingham Radio Control Jet
Rally is growing in both size and
popularity. Held annually at the
Richard W. LeVan airport in
Wingham, the event attracts
participants from across North
America and now it has attracted the
attention of RC Jet International
magazine.
The October/November issue of
the magazine was recently released
including a full four page spread
highlighting the Wingham RC Jet
Rally. Produced in England, the
magazine is distributed throughout
the United Kingdom, North
America, Australia, South Africa and
South America. The premiere
magazine for radio control jet
enthusiast is also available at

In 2012, 55 pilots from all over
North America attended the
Wingham RC Jet Rally. This
represents approximately 85 people
that booked accommodations in
local hotels, bed and breakfasts and
some camping spots for the
weekend. Two-hundred-and-fifty
cars of spectators attended the event.
The dates for the 2013 event are
already set for July 26-28, with the
public show on the 27 and 28.
The Wingham RC Jet Rally
promises to get bigger and better
because we know the world is
watching.
With the upcoming retirement ofDirector of Public Works RalphCampbell, North Huron TownshipCouncil had to look at finding theperfect replacement and, with KellyChurch, council felt they did.Church, who previously worked in
Englehart for their public works
department, said that he has been
coming to Huron County for the last
seven to 10 years, said that he has
fallen in love with the area over that
time.
“Once the opportunity came to
make the move, I was happy to do
it,” he said. “The people are friendly
and it’s a great place to be.”
He also said that he enjoys
camping and has come to Huron
County several times to camp.
Church said that it will be a
challenge taking over for Campbell,
but he knows he’s up to the job.
The move indicates a departure for
Church who, aside from spending
some time doing milling for a gold
mine, spent his entire life in
Englehart.
Church worked for the Town of
Englehart for nearly 27 years and
said that, from his interactions
within North Huron, he shared
similar experiences to Campbell’s.
“I was fairly well known from my
time there, like Ralph is now,” hesaid. “I’m an approachable guy, nothard to get to know or work with.”Campbell is staying with thetownship until the end of Novemberto make the transition seamless, butChurch says things won’t changedramatically between Campbell’stenure and his own unless indicatedby council.
“That’s the job really, to follow
council’s direction,” he said.
Church said he has met the other
employees in the department and
says that they are “good guys”.
While Church began working his
new position on Oct. 22, he moved
to the Wingham Ward on Oct. 18 and
is still in the process of getting
settled in, but he said that through
the move and the new position, he
was looking forward to getting
involved in the community.“I’m happy to be here and meetwhatever tasks come my way,” hesaid.Church’s family consists of hisdaughter Ashley, a 29-year-old nursein Kingston, 27-year-old Dustin, aplumber in Englehart, and 24-year-old Karley, who works in mentalhealth and addiction in Nanaimo,
British Columbia.
Church is excited to be in the area
because, as a bagpiper, he is going to
be able to be much more involved
with local bands, saying that he used
to drive to the Ottawa area from
Englehart to participate, which is
nearly a 600-kilometre one-way trip.
“I’m dedicated to being a piper,”
he said, adding that he’s happy that
dedication will require a little less
time on the road now.
