The Madill cross-country team
travelled to Strathroy to compete at
the Western Ontario Secondary
School Athletics Association
(WOSSAA) championships.
After last week’s wet and stormy
weather for the Huron Perth meet,
the warm sunshine was a welcome
relief for the runners. The trails were
wooded with long loops that did not
repeat. Although no Madill runners
advanced to Ontario Federation of
School Athletic Associations
(OFSAA) events, the team ran well
with nine of the 13 runners
achieving substantial ‘personal
best’ times for their race
distances.
The best team placing for Madill
came in the Midget Boys division
with Drew McKeachnie, Brandon
Marshall, Michael Schraa,
Tanner Stevenson and Lyndon Smith
earning a sixth place
finish.
This meet marked the end of a
successful season for the team. Most
of the runners worked hard at
practices, contributed well to the
team and were able to improve their
fitness and performances over the
course of the season.
The Saugeen Maitland Midget AALightning won three more gamesthis past weekend, all by shutout.
The Bolts took both ends of a
Saturday double-header over the
Chatham Outlaws, both by a score
of 1-0. In the early game, Tori
Terpstra scored a beauty off a goal-
mouth passing play from Miranda
Lantz and Lexi Smith. Goaltender
Morgan Baker turned aside all
Outlaw shots for the donut.
In the second game of the double-
header, it was Shea Tiley’s turn toshine in net, earning her secondshutout of the regular season. Harley
Westman scored the only goal of the
game on a rebound off a Maddie
Duncan point shot.
On Sunday, the Lightning found
their scoring touch, downing the
Brantford Ice Cats 3-0 in a late
afternoon matchup in Teeswater.
Cassidy Colhoun opened the scoring
with assists going to Kelly Gribbons
and Ciara Lark. Gribbons then
scored one of her own with a cannonof a slapshot from the top of thecircle. Dawn Pletsch assisted.
Ashlee Lawrence capped off the
scoring with a great individual
effort.
Baker earned her second shutout
of the weekend in net.
Next weekend the Lightning will
