Shiver, shiver, that’s what cold
damp weather does to me. Soon I’ll
remember to take the mittens with
me on every outing, but until it
becomes habit to dress for single
number degrees, I’ll mutter about
the damp.
If you ever wonder where some of
the community kids are and what
they’re doing, just ask a
grandparent. Brad Beuermann is
pictured and interviewed by the Big
Machinery magazine as a topnotch
crane operator. “Bump” and several
other big machinery operators talked
about the joy of their job, the safety
concerns and how they came to this
role in life. It’s a job that many of us
don’t look at with jealousy but more
with admiration for the skill
involved. So when Neil and Joan are
checking in Toronto for Brad, they
need to look way, way up. Grandma
Nora keeps the article handy so she

Brother Jim and Beth came for a
visit from Hallville for the weekend.

The Brussels Legion Branch had
its annual visitation by the Zone and
Deputy Zone Commanders on
Tuesday evening. Zone Commander
Andy Rogers and Deputy Zone
Commander Larry Bailey attended
an hour before the general meeting
to go over the general account
books, the lottery accounts and the
secretary books. The Branch annual
report was filled in with Branch
President Deb Caan.
The general meeting was then
conducted with 10 Comrades
present. Committee reports were
heard from those present. The Sports
Chairman Rick Mcdonald motioned
to pay the entry for the
Brussels/Blyth PeeWee team to
participate in the Legion-sponsored
hockey tournament in November in
Lucknow. The Nevada Chairman
Andy Overholt reported a positive
balance and a motion made to make
a donation to Spina Bifida
Foundation from the Nevada
account. Service Officer Mabel
Glanville reported that no one made
an appointment to meet with
Provincial Service Officer Randy
Groundwater.
Comrade Jo-Ann McDonald
reported that the fish fry events are
done for the year and there are two
catering events booked for the
upcoming month. In the absence of
the Poppy chairman John Lowe, the
lunch was planned for the
Remembrance Day services. They
will be held Sunday, Nov. 11
beginning at 10:30 a.m. The church
service will be at Melville
Presbyterian. The poppy canvas was
also discussed. The North Huron
Food Bank is asking for assistance
and the Branch will collected
canned food goods at the Friday
night suppers, euchres and dances.
We are asking everyone to please
bring a food item each time they
come to the Branch.

Remembering
On Saturday it was time for the Brussels Legion’s annual poppy campaign to begin, so
members of the Legion and cadets were spread throughout the community offering poppies
to residents ahead of Remembrance Day on Nov. 11. Working hard for the Legion were Cecil
Moore and Catrina Josling and donating to the Legion was Gilana Burchill. (Vicky Bremner photo)
