Ethel hosts season’s
final euchre party
‘Beatlemania Revisited’
show coming to Blyth
Nobody knows...
Citizenreporter Denny Scott, after being outfitted by the
Blyth Festival wardrobe department, was handcuffed and
shipped off to a maximum security prison (at the Huron East
municipal office in Seaforth) last week as part of his
donation of time to Crime Stoppers. Const. Jamie Stanley
came to The Citizen’s office on Oct. 17 to “arrest” Scott and
bring him to Seaforth where he would have to make phone
calls and raise money in order to buy his freedom. Luckily,
however, he was one of the first to be released, raising over
$750 through the jail and bail promotion. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
“It’s been a hard day’s night, and
I’ve been working like a dog…”
Most fans of popular music can
easily recall these famous lyrics
sung by the legendary John Lennon
in the timeless Beatles hit “Hard
Day’s Night”, a worldwide chart-
topping single for the Liverpool
group back in 1964. One of the most
commercially-successful and
critically-acclaimed acts in music
history, The Beatles recordings have
sold over one billion units according
to the Guinness Book of World
Records. Originally formed in 1960,
the group developed their musical
skills and reputation through
extensive live performances that
culminated into riotous enthusiasm
by screaming fans wherever they
went, a phenomenon known as
“Beatlemania”.
On Saturday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m.,
the look, sound and excitement of
The Beatles live performances will
be re-created at the Blyth Memorial
Hall with a new, international
touring show called “Beatlemania
Revisited”. This unique theatrical
event features a combination of
talented European and North
American cast members in the roles
of John, Paul, George and Ringo.
Leading the cast is the incomparable
Yuri Pool, who has been hailed by
Beatles promoter Sid Bernstein as
“The best McCartney vocalist in the
world today”. Ringo Starr will be
played by UK native Mark
Matthews, now a Canadian citizen
and 2010 Juno Award winner, while
Rob Kay, best known for his work
with Herman’s Hermits stars as
George Harrison, and European
Colum Henry plays John Lennon to
perfection.
All songs in “Beatlemania
Revisited” are performed “note for
note” by the amazing cast members
who are further augmented with full
costumes, vintage instruments and
equipment. The evening focuses on
the actual live performances of the
Beatles, kicking off with their
famous 1964 appearance on the Ed
Sullivan Show and includes hit
songs from every era of The Beatles’
extensive catalogue. In total,
over 30 Beatles songs are featured
throughout the evening including
“I Wanna Hold Your Hand”
“Ticket to Ride” “Yesterday”
“Penny Lane” “A Hard Day’s Night”
and of course “Hey Jude” amongst
the many audience favourites.
Colum Henry, who portrays John
Lennon, notes “Beatlemania
Revisited is a family oriented,
audience-interactive performance
that will have the audience singing,
dancing and clapping along and I’m
truly proud to be associated with
such a top-calibre cast and
historically authentic show.” He also
added “The Blyth Memorial Hall is
a very intimate venue with excellent
acoustics, so it truly gives Beatles
fans an opportunity to see and hear
this wonderful show at its very best.
We’re also looking forward to
saying hello to our audience
members during a special meet-and-
greet with the cast members after the
show.”
Tickets are $25 / $30 and can be
picked up at the theatre box office
or ordered by phone.
