Andrew VanVeen won the Louise Patton Memorial Award
on Friday night at F.E. Madill Secondary School’s annual
commencement ceremony. The award goes to a student

achievement. (Jim Brown photo)
It was a “full house” on Saturday,Oct. 20 at Huron Chapel Evangelical
Missionary Church in Auburn as
women from the area gathered for
the annual “ABC Fall Renewal
Day”. This was the 11th year that the
three missionary churches of
Auburn, Blyth and Clinton have
hosted this inspirational event.
Featured speaker Marion Ford
from Newmarket has been a
Christian motivational speaker for
25 years. In her morning
presentation, “The Book of the
Lord – The Lord of the Book” she
spoke on the “Power of Prayer” and
the fact that God is there for us if we
will listen. During her afternoon
session, she portrayed Catherine
Booth (wife of the founder of the
Salvation Army William Booth) in a
very meaningful drama presentation.
Another special feature of the day
was “Cupcake Creations” with
Pastry Chef Charmaine Baan
(daughter of Dave and Dianne Baan
of the Walton area). Charmaine is a
freelance chef presently working in
test kitchens at Loblaws and Bonnie
Gordon’s school of Cake Design in
Toronto.
Her creations provided the ladies
with lots of ideas and “taste tests”
and a cupcake to take home. A time
of inspirational praise and worship
through music was led by the
Auburn Praise Team (Colleen
Scwindt, Cara Stoll, Annie Sparling
and Suzanne MacVicar), ending the
day on a peaceful note.
It was wonderful to see the great
intergenerational mix of youngmothers visiting with great-
grandmothers and to see the warmth
of fellowship, supportive hugs, heart
sharing and friends reconnecting.
This is just one of three events that
the ABC Women present during the
year. Their next event will be “Faith
in Song” on Friday, Feb. 15 at the
Blyth Christian Reformed Church. The special guest performers this
year will be a male gospel trio from
Kitchener the “Heading Home Trio”.
Also featured will be a local musical
group (to be announced). The entire
community is invited to attend to
this concert. Watch The Citizen for
more information.
