MOM
By Bonnie Bremner
What Will We Remember?
When time passes by and our tears
are all dry, what memories will stay
dear of a mother not here?
Above all we’ll remember abundant
love and always feel it from above.
A mother, grandmother, great-
grandmother too, she gave her love
equally as always she would do.
She taught us to be humble, to be
kind and to care, with unconditional
love in all that we dared.
She set an example to this very day,
to always give back in so many
ways.
We’ll remember family dinners –
always room for one more, and a
welcoming smile for who walked
through the door.
She loved special occasions and
honoured them all, decorating
windows, floats, gardens and having
a ball.
Whether the Blue Jays, the Leafs or
just even her clothes, so often blue
was the colour she chose. This
memory of blue will always remain
as we take our walk down memory
lane.
We’ll remember her spirit, fun-
loving, carefree, the twinkle in her
eye was so easy to see.
Although she has left and is no
longer near, these shared memories
we will always hold dear.
As we struggle to accept that she had
to depart, we know with Dad and
Scott, she’s forever in our hearts. –

Although a report from Nancy
Michie, administrator clerk-
Treasurer, to the Oct. 2 meeting of
Morris-Turnberry Council, said it
was not legally necessary for
council to hold a public meeting
about changing the composition of
council, council voted to hold a
public meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1.
At the Sept. 18 meeting of council
it was proposed to reduce the size of
council by two councillors,
effective with the 2014 municipal
election.
There will also be a public
meeting on Nov. 20 to discuss the
dissolution of the ward system and
have all councillors elected at large.
Michie said regulations do not
require a public meeting but public
notice must be given 15
days in advance of passing of the
bylaw.

Councillors approved the draft of
the public comment letter to be sent
to resident seeking their opinions on
fire service in the municipality.
The accompanying letter makes it
clear that council does not consider
this a formal poll, vote or
referendum on the issue.
The comment sheet asks for
property owners’ preference on
whether or not to form a Morris-
Turnberry Fire Department; join
forces with a neighbouring
municipality for a joint fire service,
or to continue to purchase fire
service. It also gives residents an
opportunity to suggest another
alternative.
Anyone interested in serving as a
volunteer in a Morris-Turnberry fire
department is also invited to indicate
interest.
The form is to be returned by Nov.

In his report to council, Steve
Fortier, chief building official,
reported that to the end of
September the value of building
activity in Morris-Turnberry totalled
$4.35 million.
So far there have been permits
for eight new residences with a
value of $1.9 million. Permits for 13
residential additions worth $565,500
have also been issued.
Twenty permits for agricultural
accessory buildings have been
issued at a value of $747,400. There
has been one industrial building
permit valued at $547,000 and one
commercial permit for a project
estimated to cost $300,000.
***
Councillors approved a draft letter
to be sent to the County of Huron
stating their opposition to a
mandatory septic system
maintenance program.
***
Councillors voted to submit an
expression of interest to the Ministry
of Infrastructure to develop an asset
management plan.
There had been considerable
discussion at the Sept. 18 about the
necessity for a $22,500 computer
software program to create an asset
management plan that will be
required by the province for future
funding. The Ministry of
Infrastructure is offering grants of
up to $20,000 for municipalities
under 20,000 in population to help
them acquire the software.
***
Council approved a grant of
$12,800 for the Morris-Turnberry
share of capital expenses at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre.
***
A report on water problems at the
Bluevale Hall in August and
September showed a total of $3,338
for testing, treatment and repairs,
with bills for two further tests still to
be submitted.

stakeholders regarding the Blyth
Business Retention and Expansion
meeting will also be held at the
