Grabbing for leaves
Students in Mrs. Armstrong’s Grade 7/8 class at Hullett
Central Public School are working on a project involving pop
bottle eco-systems. The project revolves around a multi-
layered pop bottle with an aquatic portion in the bottom and
a dirt portion in the middle. Armstrong, who has executed
the project before, says it helps give students a handle on
how delicate an eco-system is, while explaining all that goes
into a single eco-system. Fishing for plants for their eco-
systems are, Connor Driscoll, left, Tristan Rhoads, centre,

Council supports company
Central Huron councillors were
brought up to speed on what many
felt was an exciting undertaking
happening in Central Huron’s
renewable energy community.
Andrew Masse, general manager
of WindTrans Systems Ltd.,
presented to council, not asking for
any financial assistance, but moral
support and some pointers as the
company goes forward with a
potential test site.
WindTrans produces water pumps
with over $1 million invested and
Masse says the technology could be
implemented anywhere and could
assist any type of community.
Information on the company and
its technology is available on its
website, www.windtrans.ca
Masse said his hope for the future
is that more test sites can be
incorporated, perhaps in Central
Huron, and that the project can get
off the ground very soon. Long-
term, he said, he would like to set up
a manufacturing site, preferably in
Central Huron, and create jobs in
Huron County.
Mayor Jim Ginn called the
product “a fascinating story” and a
“really exciting proposal”.
Masse said there are some
exciting projects in the works,
including a 9,000-pound pump that
has been created. He said it would
have the strength to pump water
from Huron County to London, but
it has yet to be implemented into a
project.
A motion was made to support the
company in its endeavours and it
was carried by council. Masse
welcomed council to the Goderich
demonstration site any time they
would like to visit.
