This week at Hullett Central
Public School students have had
many tournaments and interesting
things happen to them. The Grade
7/8 class had a soccer tournament
last week. Even though the senior
boys and girls did not win a banner,
they had so much fun and showed
good sportsmanship. The junior
boys and girls both got banners. The
junior boys won the championship
and the girls finished second.
The student council executive was
selected after an interviewing
process, it was a hard choice because
there were so many good people
who applied. The president is Colton
Rodger; vice-president, Naomi
Filiatreault; treasurer, Jacob Bjerg;
dance committee, Brooklyn Bos and
Avery Wright and the house points,
Regan Middegaal, Taylor Oesch and
Morgan Howson.
In Mrs. Armstrong’s class students
are making ecosystems out of pop
bottles. Each ecosystem has a land
and water world. Everyone has a
variety of animals in their ecosystem
like crickets, fish, snails and water
plants. They are seeing if they can
create a self-sustained ecosystem. In
Grade 7, students have finished a test
on ratios, rates and fractions. The
class is also learning about cycles in
science, in particular the importance
of the carbon cycle. The class is
most enthusiastic about writing a
suspense story. I can’t wait to write
for you next week.

Last week at Hullett Central
Public School students from
Kindergarten to Grade 6 went and
enjoyed A Bunch of Munsch at the
Blyth Festival then the Kindergarten
A reread Something Good where the
main character Tyya got in trouble
and then they made self-to-text
connections about times when they
got into trouble. They also drew
pictures and sounded out sentences
to accompany their illustrations.
Kindergarten B watched the movie
Gift of Munsch and got to see what
Robert Munsch actually looks like.
The Kindergarten B re-read the
books Angela’s Airplane and
Stephanie’s Ponytail by Robert
Munsch and they also made text-to-
self connections about times when
they made mistakes or were different
from others. They also drew pictures
with accompanying sentences which
they sounded out. To conclude the
week Kindergarten A and B students
were learning about three letters A, S
and T, also both classes have been
THE EDITOR,
Morris-Turnberry Council had
originally followed a preconceived
idea to dissolve the Morris-
Turnberry Ward system, along with
discarding two council members,
and then have a public meeting.
Fortunately this motion did not pass.
Would the meeting have been either
a cheerleaders’ meeting or a burial
ceremony of the wards?
A notice in the Oct. 17, 2012 issue
of the Wingham Advance Times and
the Oct. 18 issue of The Citizen
stated that Morris-Turnberry
Council announces a proposal to
dissolve the Ward system and
discard two council members.
Individuals are invited to submit
written comments by noon, Oct. 29,
2012 and may speak at the Nov. 1
meeting at 7:30 p.m. in Bluevale.
It would have been most valuable
if Morris-Turnberry had provided
their residents with the council’s
rationale for the above changes so
letter writers could or would have
been better informed.

Hullett students construct
pop bottle eco-systems

Just add water
One thing these Hullett Central Public School students would need for their pop bottle eco-
systems is water, so here they are working on adding it to their pop bottle worlds. The project
involves a multi-layered pop bottle with an aquatic portion in the bottom and a dirt portion in
the middle. Armstrong, who has executed the project before, says it helps give students a
handle on how delicate an eco-system is, while explaining all that goes into a single eco-
system. Adding water are, from left: Ben Stewart, Taylor Oesch, Regan Middegaal and Joseph
