One Mile North of Seaforth 519-527-0120 Friday, October 26 9-6 Saturday, October 27 9-1 By Jo-Ann McDonald It was a busy weekend at the Brussels Legion Branch. The Friday night supper had a good crowd of nearly 30 people enjoying ham and scalloped potatoes. This week will be chicken breast. The evening continued with a pub night of wings and fries in a fundraising event for Ty Sebastian. He has been named to Canada’s Under 21 National Fastball team competing in Argentina in November. The event was a combined effort by the Brussels Legion, Brussels Tigers and Brussels Optimists. A great crowd arrived to eat wings, support the draws and to donate towards Ty’s quest. The evening raised over $1,500 for Ty who thanked everyone for their support. Good luck to Ty. Comrades volunteering for the Branch included outside helpers in setup Lisa Glanville and cooking wings, Deb Caan and Sharon Robbin, inside kitchen helpers Mary Bradshaw, Judy Lee and Jo-Ann McDonald and bartenders Andy Overholt and Mike Dauphin. The Branch had two events on Saturday with euchre downstairs and darts upstairs. There were twelve-and-a-half tables of players in play. Adult study based on the video series; “Shepherding a Child’s Heart” Inquiries: see contacts in our church ad It’s ghost and goblin time, the wee ones are making mighty plans for Oct. 31. Choices made, then remade as items in the “play room” are surveyed, tried on, rejected, inspected and selected, then repeatedseveral times. I find this a fun time, atime that imaginations can run looseand every choice is a good one to the child. Some choices end up just better than others. Every time someone tells me I keep too much stuff, I smile and don’t bother to reply, for only I can say how much I have enjoyed an hour or so helping find just the right items for their memorable Halloween dress up. I had Jordan and Robyn from Listowel helping me on the weekend get the orange and black things in place. It’s much more fun with help. Two memorial services in a week for relatively young men was hardon the head and community. JohnPennington and Jason Shortreedwere both well known and liked by many. When someone dies here on earth, memorial services make you think and with these fellows, they both left us with good advice to live by. The role of a smile, the importance of getting involved in the community and the necessity of good friends are but a few of the things they left for us. So as we go on with our lives, keep their gifts to us in mind and act on them. There have been several house sales in the village just lately. When owners have been in a house for atime, they affect the neighbours invarying amounts. So when a housechanges hands the neighbourhood changes as well. Here’s to all the new people and may you enjoy our village. As the October days fade away, the wee petunia plants that braved their summer in the crack by our garage door continue to amaze me. At the first of this month we counted 12 blooms and standing proudly just off where we drive in and out. Now even after all the cool and damp that we have had, the purple beauties are still looking lovely and now are at the count of nine. One more win for Mother Nature. Bye now, Betty G.W.
