JOHNSTON, Gladys.
In memory of our most precious
mother, who passed away October 4,
2000.
You gave us many things in life,
Gifts both great and small,
But most of all you gave us love,
The greatest gift of all.
Time cannot steal the memories,
We hold within our heart,
Or take away the happy times,
Of which you were a part.
As long as our hearts remember,
As long as our hearts still care,
We will never part with those we
love,
They are with us everywhere.
Today, tomorrow, our whole lives
through,
We shall always love and remember
you.
– Always treasured and remembered
forever, Bernice and Elaine. 39-1
CAMPBELL. In loving memory of

A smile for all, a heart of gold,
The very best the world could hold,
Those we love don’t go away,
They walk beside us every day.
– Forever in our thoughts and hearts,
Heather and family. 39-1

help grow her small business, she
says, and because the majority of
work she does is custom, she says
it’s never boring and there’s always
something to do.
The cycle, however, has worked
its way back around, she says, and
Canadians are asking for Canadian-
made products again, which has
helped her ease back into the canvas
bag business.
“People are asking for Canadian-
made now. It’s becoming quite an
issue,” she said.
It was when Barmy Tech began
really celebrating its Canadian
heritage, attaching a small Canadian
flag to each creation as the
company’s calling card, that
the phone began ringing off the
hook.
“That little flag started getting us
jobs,” she said.
One of Barmy Tech’s biggest
customers is the Province of British
Columbia, which has a “Buy
Canadian” purchasing policy.
At the time of her interview with
The Citizen, Cummings was in the
middle of creating hundreds of
canvas bags for the libraries of B.C.,
each branch wanted a different
colour or a different style, but they
all wanted the bags to be Canadian
made.
Huron County has been one of the
company’s best customers,
Cummings says, saying they have
been very supportive of her over the
years.
This is Barmy Tech’s 10th year in
the former Walton Public School
building and over the past three
years, Cummings has been thankful
for the extra space.
“For the last three years I have
been working long hours,” she said.
“We’ve been so busy I’ve been run
off my feet.”
Over the course of those three
years, the Walton TransCan has
become one of the company’s
biggest customers, with Barmy
Tech providing everything for the
event from spot canopy repairs to
the flags, which is now something
the company takes care of for
the entire country’s motocross
world.
Despite how many items
Cummings has turned out over the
last 20 years, she says she’s still
surprised at how seldom she sees an
item on the street.
“It feels good to see our stuff out
there,” she said.
Barmy Tech even makes hockey
bags for the Blyth/Brussels Minor
Hockey Association now.
“It’s been 20 years and we’re still
here, so I think people see that and
they know we’re here to stay,” she
said.
For more information on Barmy
Tech, call Cummings at 519-887-
9393 or visit the company’s website
